dont think he did. As he said sons bill arrived 19th and the billing was to 15th before additional charges. i think best thing is for son to pay back, like someone else said life lesson. Bet his GFs bill was nil though

perhaps PAYG from now on , alot of free min deals on certain sims these days for off peak.

i know its no use to you now but i know t-mobile do (did) a tarrif where you paid x pounds per month and you got x mins and x texts free after that you couldn't use it unless you physically paid for a top up voucher.

Surley this would be a better plan for the future?
I don't think the boy has a future.... last time he's allowed anything until he's about 25.

This'll be brought up at every opportunity until he's in his 60s!

I know that if you are having problems paying the bill (and it will be you that is held responsible as the phone is in your name), you should pay what you can and once the bill is overdue the debt will be passed to the Collections department who may be able to set a payment arrangement for you. As was said before the late payment and arrangement will show on your credit file but sometimes if you are struggling it is the only route. The phone will be barred from making out going calls and text and they will need the first payment onto the account within 12 days of setting an arrangement up.

A tip: If you start with the idea that Orange is somehow responsible for the problem of your son running up the bill you may find you won't get the best out of the operator, if on the other hand you acknowledge that you are partly to blame and that it is out of the ordinary I am sure you will get the best help possible although they tied to the rules of the company.

    Good luck
  • I have had a similar problem with my son though hes 20 at uni. We paid over £350 for a one month bill - hes in love with a dutch girl and I thought I had problems. My hubby would kill me if it were 818!!!!(Thinks I pamper eldest)
Anyway I solved it by asking O2 to limit his call charges to £30 (plus rental contract) if he goes over that it's just cut off. It's worked and now he has a job he is paying me back slooooowly

I know on CPW tariffs, there is a cap on the amount that can be spent on calls per month. Mine is set to £60 per month and anything over that, and calls can't be made from my phone.

cpw automatically give me a £160 cap
    which originally was £100
but i can change it to whatever i want

so...how about that for your son

Most mobile networks have a credit limit depending on circumstances and usage statistics.

I know T-Mobile do because I know someone that worked in their call centre but obviously Orange aren't as strict :(.

I'm wondering how on earth a 20 year old at Uni is having their mobile bill paid for by their parents? A mobile is hardly a necesity (sp?), so surely if he wants one then he should buy his own, that might actually breed some responsibility in him to not run up huge bills.... or can he not afford a mobile after he has spent all his loan on beer?!?!

This IMHO is what is wrong with the world today, kids have it too easy because parents let them get away with too much and give them too much, then they expect it forever more without a second thought or a thank you....

I'm sounding like i'm 80 now, i'm 26 btw, but I have always had to work for stuff in my life. If I wanted branded stuff or luxuries then I had to work for them from a young age.
