I really don't know, to be honest... I know I can't sit in this nice suburb scraping by until I retire or run out of energy.... I made a commitment to look after my mum when she needs it, and I honestly don't know if she'll want to take me up on that or not, but I have to be there if she wants me. So I feel like I have this window to do stuff like that....
I think I'd take the camper van, and rent a little apartment if I *really* liked a place; I'd stay at my sister's place in France every so often too, and there's another place down further south too that I could stay. This wouldn't be for a couple of years, I just know that if I don't do *something* like this, I'll regret it till the day I die.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
You go Girl, grab it while you can.
You should have a great time, it's a brilliant opportunity, esp. if your mum can manage without you for a while.
BTW I heartily agree with you over Ryanair's CEO.
Did you know that they're as tight with their staff too? (they're not allowed to charge their phones at work for eg)0 -
Olive, thank you for your post, I really needed to hear that. She's nowhere near needing me right now - she got scared when she was looking after my dad - about 4 years ago now - about who would look after her if she needed it, and I told her I'd been thinking about it too, and I would do it. I just didn't want her scared like that, I couldn't bear it. But I also need to be true to me, and this seems like the way forward....
Glad you agree with me too about Ryanair's CEOI didn't know that about the staff conditions, but I'm afraid it makes sense  that attitude is going to go right through the firm.

Well done Karma - the books, I mean, as well as the grand plan.
I share your fear about scraping a living in a nice suburb. I never wanted to stay in the same place all my life. I too dream of taking off - it's a bit further off for me as I have young children to launch on the world first, but it keeps me going to think when they're independent I can cash in my equity and travel. Just hope I keep my health!
It was really good of you to make that commitment to your mum. That must give her great peace of mind. Who knows whether or when she will need you - but it will only be a little time out of your life and the rest can be spent in France, Spain and wherever the fancy takes you.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
By gum, what a cunning plan that is. Camper van envy here as well. It is shocking when you realise you can make your dreams come true isn't it?
bob hurries off to actually fill squares in and write a nice begging letter to be included in trip details..with cake bribery..................Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

Cake must be chocolate topped with real chocolate, possibly with a side order of chocolate I reckon!
I envy you Spain Karmacat but not the camper van! I think trying to get me in and out of one of those would be a job and a half! :rotfl:
Hmm off to go colour another square in here as well! I have almost cleared £200 off my £2,500 CCDo not meddle in the affairs of Dragons, for thou art crunchy and good with catsup

[KC wanders back to her thread, thinking hard about Spanish champagne and strawberries]

I missed the party! I had to work! [stamps foot] The camper van will be a nice one - it might even have an awning! - tho not as posh as Snaggles' extension!

Seaxwyn, it *is* a fear, you're right - I need to be out there, getting into debt has really derailed me, but I can see the direction my path needs to be now. Your children are still quite young, aren't they (mind you, you're younger than me!) so its different, as you say - but this is not how the second half of my life is supposed to be! So I'll be off. Backed up by the rental income from two properties, hopefully.2023: the year I get to buy a car0
