O happiness and deep, abiding joy, the boiler, which was gas safety checked on Tuesday has decided to pack in. We are now waiting to see if the gas man cometh

Hooray, jolly hockeysticks and whoopdedoo for the snow which is falling thick and fast now

  • Hi all,

My bus appears to be running better with a bit of snow on the ground:o Went to Mr A & did a refill shop. Last time I went to Mr A I had to wait 25 minutes for a bus home, today about two minutes - good job too, as it was freezing:eek: so glad I wore my woolly hat:)

Now have baked beans, eggs, cheese & most importantly bread flour - hm bread is so much nicer than most sm bread (apart from the expensive fancy stuff) :rotfl:

Just started snowing & it is settling:( but at least it had the decency to wait until I was back indoors:rotfl:)

I agree with JackieO, take the baby & leave the bloke in the car - the ONLY reason I can think of to have a baby in the car is if it was seriously ill & you thought it would be quicker than waiting for an ambulance but then I am just trying to justify a mo..n’s actions! When I mentioned it to my DH he turned the air blue - sometimes we despair & think there should be some sort of test to be a parent. Unfortunately that would mean that lots of lovely people wouldn’t be here as evidenc d by several posters on this thread:o:o

    Stay warm & safe everyone

My youngest DD has just been bringing me stuff she thought I might need/want, bless her. I really am OK, but the thought was there, she trudged half a mile to my house picking up stuff from the Tesco metro which is about five minutes from my house, but she knows I won't go out when its snowy or icy .

The upside was she brought me a big bar of chocolate as a 'cheery up gift ' as she knows I hate being stuck indoors. The snow has started again and is quite heavy at the moment. I was hoping it was going to stop, but it seems its in for the rest of the day.

My car has returned to looking like an igloo, my niece who lives just outside Cork texted to say they have no power until at least tomorrow afternoon, and their well is frozen up Luckily she has gas cooking so they can at least have something hot to eat and plenty of hot water bottles. Her four children are pretty good though and usually get cut off where they live as its a bit rural.

I hope all our friends on here are OK, and are being sensible and keeping warm and dry .

Batten down the hatches chums as I can't drive I shall possibly open a bottle of vino with my dinner and imbibe a glass :):):)

    Cheers chums

    JackieO xx

And the boiler chap has just been, the condenser pipe thing had frozen up. We have never had a combi boiler before, we had no idea. Poor chap had to wriggle out through the window, my OH can manage this but he is small and lithe, this was a very big chap wriggling through a very small space, he has contacted the letting agency and pointed out that the back door needs replacing. They said that this is to be done, after nearly 2 years, I am not holding my breath.

It is now warmish, I don't think any heating system could be perfect in this old and drafty house but it is a lot better than earlier today with no heat and heavy snow falling.

  • AOD this happened to ours last night. Fortunately it has happened before so we knew straight away what the problem was! Mr TA was outside in the freezing temps and dark with a jug of hot water, an old towel and a torch! He was wet through and frozen stiff when he came back in - fortunately not through the window!

Well one out of two of the hoped for things happened this morning! The village bus was back in service again, for the first time since Monday! But where was the Post van! The main road up is still clear but not the side roads so are we to assume Health and Safety don't allow postmen to walk on snow these days!! I wouldn't be too concerned normally but Mr TA is still waiting for the date of his stent change op (he has had the pre-op) and previously he hasn't had much notice of this.

Yet another pan of soup on the go here. We are having it most days for lunch through this cold spell.

Keep safe and warm folks. Take care if you must go out xx

It's got heavy again here as well... Started up just lightly at about 1pm, and got progressively heavier. Been going heavy for about an hour now... Just in time for folk's commute home!
My flat overlooks a dual carriage A road, and it was crawling yesterday evening. I suspect the same will happen again today. I have no plans to be any where other than indoors this evening!

  • The cleaners did not turn up this morning.......they phoned B but not us, typical.

The roads here are clear, I went up to the PO to post a letter recorded delivery to the cleaners cancelling our contract and just paying her for the two cleans they have done.

Had an anxious call from SIL, she had not had the email I sent earlier in the week.
They have very bad snow where they live in Northumberland.

Nelski - I hope that hysterical owner of the WM has calmed down by the time that the poor repair man arrives, but I guess that she perhaps only takes her displeasure out on you:eek: I am not physically able to do much for my elderly mum, but she is very appreciative of all that other family members, friends, district nurses etc do for her. When she and dad were physically fit they were always the ones helping out friends, family and neighbours.
    .

so do I maddiemay but i also suspect she will play the sweet old helpless lady to him!! What she actually wanted of course was for me to cancel my plans and go round .......tough :D

*scratches head* So.... she rings you, so that you can ring the people who can sort it. Wouldn't it have been more straight-forward for her to just ring AO herself? Or am I missing the point somewhere?

you are missing something LW....you are missing the fact that she is incapable of sorting anything out herself now and prefers a good old yell at me :D:D

Not wanting to sound unkind but has the dear lady always been like this? If this behaviour is more recent maybe she needs a check up? Possibly she sings your praises behind your back and is only peremptory and demanding to your face.

Elona she has always been a mean girl even from when I was young but Dad was a softie who somehow managed to cover it. Now of course she cant shout at dad so I get it. I do give it back though as I wont be her whipping boy (or girl lol) I doubt she has ever sung my praises in her life lo, that pleasure is reserved for wonder son ;):D

Had a really lovely lunch with my mate which cheered me up no end :) finished a bit of shopping needed at Aldi so I can have a lock in this weekend if need be

Jackie so glad you are staying put ...my plumber friend from Maidstone is 6ft 2 and built like a brick .....out house shall we say and he wont go out as its too dangerous on the roads and he cant afford to have a nasty accident either. some people obviously think they are above these warnings.

The plumber has just left our house, the pipes taking water into the tank in the loft have frozen hence the lack of hot water.
We have switched the first floor stopcock off and now have a fan heater in the loft trying to warm it up a tad. He’s told us to try switching the water back on after an hour to see what happens, obviously the main worry is burst pipes hence our need to manage it rather than just let it happen.
It’s started snowing again at about 4pm and is still coming down, I did manage to get over to see Lulu this morning, she is fine, all cosy in her stable.
  • I have just had a phone call from my Grand daughter, my youngest daughter has been hit by a lorry and has severe concussion, she is at QMC Nottingham has had a full body scan. She was conscious but does not know what happened and we are waiting for contact from the Police.

Apparently she was walking down Ankle Hill in Melton when the lorry hit her. I can only assume the lorry skidded.

There is no point in us going to Nottingham, but I guess there will be very little sleep here tonight.
