This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning Holly and all.

Blasted hounds got me up in the night. I gave up trying to sleep after the 4th time they got me up and I'm so cold even though I'm wrapped up. I'll see how I feel later.

Must dash...hound needs to go out....again.

  • Thanks for starting us off Hollyharvey.

I hope the visit with your doctor went well.

I hope you can create a space in your freezer, as I find it an absolute boon to have frozen vegetables - I currently have carrots, petit pois, cauliflower & broccoli, leeks & green beans. The reason I find it such a boon is that most of the time I CBA to go shopping! :)

Since joining the MSE OS Forum I have found myself seeing things differently like when I was in my twenties:rotfl: yes I can remember that far back:rotfl: Explanation is that if something was dusty, dirty, needed putting away or repairing etc it would get done asap rather than ‘seeing but Not seeing’ what should be done iyswim. I am gradually getting back into the mindset of ‘doing asap’ :j Mind you there are setbacks, but then I remember that wonderful saying “Rome wasn’t built in a day”

    Sorry to have blethered on.

    Have a great day everyone.

    Morning everyone

Hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, gales with a wind chill that cuts straight through you here.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Dinner last night was lamb casserole, mash, carrots, broc, cauli with cheese sauce, extra sauce/gravy for those that wanted some. Tonight I'm not sure but I'm going to do the food shopping so will organise something then.

Yesterday I did manage to get 3 x loads of washing, washed and dried, most doesn't need ironing, but will do what needs to be done later today. I did get a quick clean of the bathrooms done too, also managed to make a telephone call and do a job on the pc. Gave kitchen a bit of a clean also. So not loads done but jobs that did need doing got done. I'm hoping today I can get our bed stripped, washed and re-made, boys beds too. I did spend all morning and into the afternoon at mum's so I'm happy with what I did do.

    On to today -

I'm going food shopping first thing this morning, DS2 coming with me and then walking to the gym from there. I have a nail appointment later this morning, hoping she doesn't cancel as they really need doing and the roads here are clear, she lives locally too. I want to get the hoover shoved over the carpets too. I'm thinking I may make a cake later too.

    Keep safe and well x

    Good morning all.

Apart from a high wind there’s still no bad weather here. There must be a micro-climate here as the nearest town, eight miles away, had snow yesterday though even that was no-where near like ‘bad’.

Here I am, wide awake when I have no need to be. Mind you I turned the light out about 9pm and have slept right through.

Judi - do you not have an electric blanket to help keep you warm? They are great for a quick blast of heat during the night.

Holly - at least you managed to get out for some air.

Today I need to take my rubbish bags to the dump. Usually they get taken on my way to Glasgow on Thursdays. I have the online banking routine to do this morning and a little prep for Monday. There’s a few jobs to be done but nothing taxing.

Now, I hope everyone is safe and warm. Reports from down south are awful with the M62 being closed both ways. Even heard about bad snow in the New Forest area.

    Happy Friday.

    Morning all

Bitterly cold here and with a nasty wind making it feel like - 11  it snowed from around 3 yesterday afternoon and has been going most of the night its laying but the road outside our house seems clear I suppose it must have been gritted although its a quiet village road. The roads on my way to work are even more rural so would not have been gritted so the ride to work will be interesting !

We have not have to have a day off yet due to the snow and I don't think it will happen now, which is a shame.

I phoned my mum last night to check she was ok, she was staying indoors and doing a lot of sewing etc to keep herself busy, she said she might need some veg etc by the weekend which I can grab for her at the weekend.

Im not sure how many clients we will have in today, yesterday we had about half the usual amount and its worse today so we shall see.

Takeaway and wine tonight although not too much wine for me as I am working this weekend ( I still have 4 days to work yet :( )

Right better get on have god days all xx

Morning! The wind woke me at 3.30. It wasn't snowing at that point but the snow has started again, though not heavily. I'm really glad not to be working today because public transport here has reached the sketchy stage and I don't plan on going anywhere, I'll leave the seats on the few buses to those who really need to be out.

We can manage food for quite a few days, with the exception of fresh greens and we do have carrots, onions, shallots and potatoes, plus frozen peas (yuk peas) and possibly a little cabbage and a bit of salad so I don't think we'll develop scurvy quite yet.

I am worried about Monday. DS is landing at Manchester in the morning and if the roads are unsafe I suppose we'll have to organise a hotel room for him, not sensible to expect him to do that on arrival. O.H is convinced that he'll be safe to drive up and get him, I'm not so sure.

We are nearly out of bread so I'm about to stick the breadmaker on now.

Have fun, stay safe and warm!
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning All,

I have a snow today - as all of the schools are closed. The snow got heavier yesterday afternoon. Our area also changed to amber warning. It is freezing outside.

I shall do some ironing today not a lot to , I will probably take the ironing board downstairs and the daytime tv.

Keep Warm inside if you can x

  • Morning folks and thanks HOLLY for starting us off. Sorry it was another bad night.

Like everyone else the howling wind had me awake half the night. It seems the whole country, apart from GERS (!!) is having this atrocious weather, We finally had the snow plough up late yesterday afternoon and, after 3 full days and nights of it, no snow has fallen since. So for now the only road up from town is open! We might finally see the bus and post van up here! The side roads are still horrendous so no chance of us getting the car out just yet.

At least this enforced living from the freezers is showing results. They are slightly less packed than they were and it's easier to find what I am looking for. Which is a bonus in itself as it is too damned cold to stand around in the garage this weather.

I'm still ok for fridge stuff after Monday morning's quick top up shop but fruit and veg stocks are dwindling. I do keep some frozen veg in, as well as frozen berries, but prefer other stuff fresh. Maybe after the weekend we will get to the sm if we can get the car out by then!

The electrician rang yesterday to see if he could come some time next week to suss out what needs doing/changing for the new kitchen - when it happens! He's organised, they are not due to start fitting it till the 16th April!

Oh well folks time for another coffee before braving the garage for the freezer dive so that I can christen today's meals! Being Friday it's that day again - the Friday Tidy - but need to summon up some energy first. This enforced staying in hasn't achieved anything in the way of jobs getting done(except the ironing) so a good blitz is needed today.

Have a good day folks if you can, despite the horrible weather, and ((HUGS)) for all in need/want of them. Take care all xx

Morning all. Deep snow here, and the wind is bitter. It snowed lightly for most of the day yesterday. i went into the town for a few essentials (ok, looking in the charity shops isn't an essential!), and it was quite busy. I like to get out most days even just into our little town.

I cracked on with my sewing, made some soup with some tomatoes that needed using, and we dined out of the freezer. Today I'm doing gammon in cola in the slow cooker, I've never tried it before. I've had the gammon in the freezer since Christmas, thought I might give it a go.

Holly, frozen veg are so handy. the only ones I'm not keen on are frozen sprouts. I buy peas, green beans, sweetcorn, sometimes leeks, cauli, broccoli, sliced peppers, very convenient.

Today will just be pottering. DhH is going to clear the snow off the car and start it. I usually see friends on a Friday evening, but tonight we'll see what the weather is like.

Take care whatever you are doing folks, and stay warm

    Morning All

I slept really well considering I didn't do a great deal yesterday, must have been that extra effort throwing snowballs!

I'll do my usual Saturday clean today and see what the day brings, one of my neighbours works in a local school and is going to check on the chickens and fish so I'll probably walk with her - walking poles could be a good idea!

Hope you are all safe and warm, the wind outside is brutal and there's more snow gently falling. Take care. XX
