Nelski - I agree with you, I'm sure a lot of people don't actually have to go out in their cars. There's been an incident near us with a bus full of elderly people stuck on a bus for hours.... a holiday tour bus. Surely they shouldn't have even started their journey?
I'm having another snow day. Youngest DD got a lift to work - not sure if she'll try to drive home, but hoping her car is buried under a big pile of snow so she has to leave it! I have been outside and cleared an area of the drive so she can get the car off the road if she does drive it home. We haven't had any more snow but its still windy so it's just blowing everywhere.
Eldest DD has sent me her 12000 word dissertation to read....as I have nothing to do!
    Stay safe indoor everyone

Morning fellow Eskimos :D. ( am I allowed to say that, or should I say Inuits ? )
I have just emerged from my igloo to see that it's still snowing here .
Mr Fix It has been out playing, er clearing the snow from the steps in case we have to go out and he also fed the birds. It is up to Mr Fix Its knees and drifted in places higher than my waist, but that's not hard as I'm vertically challenged anyway :rotfl:I have phoned my Dad and he's ok but chomping at the bit to go somewhere, anywhere. What is it with the boys that they have this need to go out ? I am waiting to see if elderly neighbour's "meals a la wheels" turn up, if not I will cook her a hot meal and no doubt Mr Fix It will be delighted to clear her path and steps too :rotfl:.
We have had 3 power outages this morning but it seems we are lucky that they didn't last too long, some people in the next village have been off for hours .
I have rung the dentist this morning to cancel my appointment for Monday but got the answer machine so they must be closed too. There are no buses running, not even on the main roads, they stopped at 3pm yesterday and the trains at 4pm. I felt sorry for those who were stuck at work and had no means of getting home.
I have done one load in the WM and emptied the DW. Tea tonight will be fish and chips for me and chicken and chips for Mr Fix It. I don't know what to give my neighbour as she doesn't do fish or fowl, I think there maybe a HM cottage pie or some pork steaks lurking in the freezer.
Stay safe and warm all. Many hugs to anyone in need.

I'm with you Nelski, why do folk not realise that weather warnings are there for protection.
What on earth would make you want to take a seven month old baby out in the appalling weather that's been around.

I am in my 70s, and I haven't been across the doorstep since Monday.

Unless you are working for the emergency services then you should if at all possible STAY OF THE ROADS. How can the gritters and snow plough help if they are stuck behind some twerp moaning about being stuck.

I'd have removed the baby and made him stay there on his own, daft begger.

I too am fed up being housebound, but I'd be more fed up landing in hospital with a broken hip, and having my family worried silly about me .

Good Luck for the AO repairman who will meet the wrath of your Mum though :) Hope he had a tough skin

Well chums another dark and snow threatening day ahead, due to start after lunch locally and go on for a few hours

I have been busy knitting though, and baking cake and melting moment biscuits for my DGS who will walk round later for a natter and no doubt hot chocolate and said biscuits:)

I'll be glad when I can see the road surface again ,or for that matter the pavement as its disappeared in my area since Monday night But I am safe and warm and dry so I can't complain.Like all things it will pass and who know by next Friday we may see the sun again (fingers crossed )

HM soup for lunch with cheese and crackers to follow, DGS Ben messaged me yesterday to ask about how to make soup, him and his pals are in their student house in Norwich and are all feeling the pinch as they are coming to the end of their three year course and funds are getting low :) I obliged them and he's just messaged me today they made some last night with odd bits from their fridge and were happy with it, so six happy young men kept warm for pennies :)

Right time to get the kettle on

Have a good day chums and see warm and dry if possible

    Good afternoon (just!) all!

I don't normally get on during the week, but we have a snow day at school today! The school I work at is rural, and despite being on a bus route, doesn't get gritted. I'm almost the furthest member of staff away, about a 30 minute commute.
Wednesday we closed at 1:30 and I went home.
Thursday we closed at 12:30 and I was sent off.
Today the Head finally saw sense, and declared a snow day late afternoon yesterday for today.
Yesterday afternoon I bundled up and braved the blizzard with a rucksack and my hiking stick, and walked up the road to Waitrose. Just got as much as I could carry. Milk, bread, eggs, and a few bits for lunches for next week at work, if the weather carries on bad into Sunday. It was strange snow though! Very dry, and even on well-trodden pavements, it wasn't slippy. Not seen snow like it before. However, the wind was horrific, right in my face all the way!

Today I am staying in, getting caught up with odd jobs. But I suspect tomorrow I will attempt a walk to the local garden centre for my weekly Costa!
Stay warm and safe everyone! Probably best to avoid any car journeys today if you possibly can! Only walk out if you've got decent kit.

A lot of snow fell in the night and there is close to six inches lying, more where it has drifted. The Furry one had a grand time galumphing around the garden first thing. OH walked her into town and picked up the newspaper and has since cleared a pathway up the drive to the house.

Yesterday I baked some GF peanut butter cookies and some GF cheese, tomato puree and walnut pinwheels using some GF flaky pastry which needed using, both taste good and it is nice to have some treats, most ready made GF stuff tastes pretty awful to me having baked for approaching 60 years.:(

More snow due today and tonight, a couple of appointments and social things cancelled, but that's fine.

Nelski - I hope that hysterical owner of the WM has calmed down by the time that the poor repair man arrives, but I guess that she perhaps only takes her displeasure out on you:eek: I am not physically able to do much for my elderly mum, but she is very appreciative of all that other family members, friends, district nurses etc do for her. When she and dad were physically fit they were always the ones helping out friends, family and neighbours.

Hollyharvey - perhaps time yourself for two spells of 15 minutes and do one household thing that needs doing and then later 15 minutes (or more) of something just for you, listen to some music, read a book, give yourself a little manicure etc.

    Take care all.

    Me again.
Just had a bizarre phone call with elderly neighbour. It went..
    Me " Hello it's nan."
    Her "Who? "
    "Me, from next door "
    " I don't know anyone next door "
    " Joan, It's me.... nan"
" Oh hello love, where are you ? "
Me " at home, next door, has your meal man been ?" ( I knew he hadn't )
Joan " no love, he's shacked up with that dirty woman up the back ! "
Me " What the meal man ?"
Joan " No he hasn't been yet "
This conversation went on for another couple of minutes before she said she didn't want me to go round with a hot meal as she had eaten 2 custard tarts. I know that she's a bit deaf too and I presume she didn't have her hearing aid in because I was shouting down the phone. I did make her promise to ring if she needed anything, so I hope she does. I will make sure she's ok tomorrow though. Poor woman shouldn't be on her own in my opinion.
Fair play, the pratt over the road has just cleared her steps, well done young sir !
Anyway it's still snowing and our cleared path is covered again :(.
Nelski They have been warning here "do not go out unless an emergency", but some people seem to know better

Grief, it's bitter outside. Even parts of the canal are frozen. I've been out to the tip and the bank and did a little bit of shopping. There's a lot of empty shelves in the supermarket.
    '
I've got the fire blazing, found bolognese meat sauce in the freezer and had some with mash and peas (love peas) so am ready for some trash TV. All the online banking has also been done so there's nothing left to do today.

I hope that everyone can keep safe and snug.

Tru healing vibes for Scampi; I hope his paw is ok. Silly boy, not to let Mummy look at it.

talking of a mother she rang this morning screaming and crying cos her washing machine had spewed water all over the floor. (its only a month old. ) Annoying granted but you would think someone had died with her hysterics. Naturally it was my fault and what was I going to do about it  quick call to AO and they are going round to repair tomorrow (i suspect one of the water pipes has worked loose) Trust it to go wrong for her it couldnt happen to a nicer woman......
*scratches head* So.... she rings you, so that you can ring the people who can sort it. Wouldn't it have been more straight-forward for her to just ring AO herself? Or am I missing the point somewhere?

I hope that means her leg is feeling better. :o

Tomorrow's scheduled meet'n'greet has been postponed; I can't use the mobility buggy in the snow in any case, so Mr LW would've had to do the trial walk and report back to me - not ideal. Anyways, hopefully it will be rescheduled for Friday - I'm just waiting to hear if this is do-able, and what time they'd like to come (we are available all day, so can fit in with their schedule easily).
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)

The amber alert round here has turned to yellow although some more snow flurries are forecast for later. The snow on the roofs has nearly all melted but the snow on the ground is still there.

Middle dd and another two dds are due to come round tomorrow and stay overnight after a birthday afternoon tea in York so I hope we are able to do that. I need to do a quick hoover and tidy before they arrive tomorrow and will defrost some pastry and sausage meat to make some sausage rolls for the evening and older dd is bringing some anti pasta and nibbles.

Hoping they vote for my chicken and cheese pancakes for Sunday lunch as I have the ingredients in.

Not wanting to sound unkind but has the dear lady always been like this? If this behaviour is more recent maybe she needs a check up? Possibly she sings your praises behind your back and is only peremptory and demanding to your face.

I had porridge for breakfast and a chicken sandwich for lunch but no idea what to cook tonight. I have some chicken fillets that need using up so will saute them with onions, peppers and tinned tomatoes and look out some pasta or rice from the cupboard.

    Hugs to all
