This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Thank you Holly for starting us off. I didn't get much sleep either and it's miserable so you have my sympathies x

It's a bit chilly but not one flake of snow here thank goodness. All of the local primary schools are closed today though as a lot of the staff live out in the sticks where it has snowed so they can't get into work. The secondary school is still open as far as I know so Phoebe will be disappointed :(. I will wait and see if I am on babysitting duty as my grandchildren are off today.

I've fed the dogs and their water bowl has frozen solid so I had to bang it hard to get the ice out. They galloped around the garden and soon came back inside to the warm. I hope they are not going to be pests today, they spent most of yesterday wrestling with each other. It was quite amusing to watch as even though Bobby is only a quarter of the size of Max, he was doing his best to try and pin him down, very comical :rotfl:.

I will be making up a sort of bolognese sauce today as we have loads of veg that needs using. I will spend a half hour chopping and prepping this morning while I still have a bit of energy. I don't know whether to make it into a lasagne or serve with spaghetti yet, I shall see how I feel later.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to and wrap up warm if you have to go out, take care xx

    Morning everyone

Hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark here, a little more snow but not very much, roads are clearing but it's bitterly cold and ice seems to be more the problem.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Dinner last night was disjointed as DH was late finishing work, boys had fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, I had a fish pie from the freezer that needed using up with some LO mash and veg, DH had egg, bacon, fried mash and beans. Tonight I'm not sure what we'll be having as I had planned a beef casserole, but forgot to get the meat out to defrost, but also that needs long slow cooking, and when it's windy we very often have a power cut, so don't want to start something off them lose the power and be unable to get it cooked, I'll have a re-think on that.

Work yesterday was reasonably busy. I'm now on days' off although I'm working Saturday.

I'll be heading into town first thing, then going to mum and dad's to sit with mum whilst dad has a few things to do. I'll also be trying to get jobs done at home - washing, drying and ironing needs doing, housework too.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning :hello:

Where's my snow?! The little bit that came down yesterday has disappeared and there's not even a hint of frost. Most disappointed :D It's very cold though, I haven't been down the garden to the chicken run yet but the bird bath is frozen solid so I'll have to find some plastic bowls for water for the birds and chickens.

My tomatoes are in propagators in a warm room, next to the window. But they're struggling because they're not getting enough light, they're far too thin and spindly. I'm not sure they'll survive, if they don't I'll have to buy plants from the garden centre.

I have quite a bit of work to do today, I'm not sure how long it'll take so I'll just keep going until it's all done. I have a couple of things I want to do for myself but will put them off til tomorrow if I have to.

  • Morning fellow insomniacs. I have been awake since 4.00 worrying about everything and everybody as usual. It's as if an alarm clock goes off dead on 4.00 and then I'm wide awake.

Minus 6 according to my phone but there is a gale force wind blowing so dread to think how cold it actually feels out there. The snow is getting whipped up in deep drifts. The roads are still atrocious and if we could get the car out we wouldn't take the risk. We are fed up of being trapped inside but Mr TA's neuropathy can cause him to fall when there isn't deep snow about so I dread to think how he would cope trying to walk on snow.

It's recycling bin day but an e-mail off the council said collections had been postponed due to the weather conditions. Nevertheless we had to put our bins out on the collection day and they would get to them when safe to do so. It was flipping hard work dragging the bin through deep snow from beside the garage to the pavement!

No school again for the DGDs. They informed all parents last night they would be closed again today - the 3rd day. The kids are not complaining!

NELSKI I got the ironing pile done yesterday. It was lovely to see the bottom of the basket!

No idea what we are eating today and it's too cold to go out in the garage for a freezer rummage just yet! I'll grab a couple of tubs of soup and some rolls for lunch and see what catches my eye for dinner.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, carers, sad, worried or lonely among us. Take care xx

Morning all, thank you for starting us off Hollyharvey.

I got up at 3.30, I needed a wee and then was wide awake. I don't think there was any snow falling at that point and what there was got scoured away by howling wind. But it started again a couple of hours ago, just flurries but it is cold, -6°. With the Wind, it feels colder. It keeps gusting, quite spooky.

I need to work for an hour or so, just a quick whizz into town for court and that's a very short hearing then I'm free until Wednesday.

OH cooked chips last night and I can still smell frying. Normally I'd have the windows open for an hour or so but perhaps not today.

Holly, the times when I can't settle to anything are times when I'm upset, worried or sad, perhaps the same with you. It is good that there are plans for your day.

I'm going to stop rambling on now because I've had to take my paws out of my pockets to post and want to put them back in!
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning Everyone,

The snow did clear mostly yesterday, but then there was a light fresh covering , which fell yesterday afternoon and is still on the ground.

The weather forecast says it is going to be warmer than yesterday. I have seen snow is due arrive about over lunchtime here.

Not much planned except wrapping up warm for work as I am outside this week.

HollyHarvey Do you like listening to music. I always find music is good for lifting my spirits. I often put music on and have a jig around the kitchen.

    Take Care x

    Morning all

We have mega snow :D its set in for the whole day and tomorrow too :j Im going to go into work but I have a feeling that we might be sent home, a lot of clients at work have trouble walking and have walking aids etc. so I think they will close the centre, I may be wrong but it seems sensible to me.

Something and chips for dinner will go and look in the freezer after this. need to wash some work t-shirts tonight and will have a sweep through.

Take care everyone and stay safe xx

Morning all. The weather - what can I say - snow, snow and more snow. It's a long time since I've seen so much, with our spell of mild winters. The wind is whipping it up as well, and it's bitter. It stayed below freezing all day yesterday, and is set to do so today.

I slept well last night, but only because I was awake till after 3am the night before. I had ended up getting up for cocoa and toast, but the house was freezing so didn't stay up long. Despite that I was up before 7am yesterday.

I spent a lot of time sewing yesterday, and will do some more today. I'm waiting for some fabric to be delivered, but heaven knows when it will arrive, it's probably buried in a snowdrift somewhere.

Holly, sorry to hear your sleep is still disrupted.
TA, I don't know which is worse. being unable to get to sleep, or waking up at 3 or 4 am. I suffer from both.

I'll dig in the freezer for our meals today, there's plenty of food.

Hugs to the poorly, sad and worried.

    Take care folks.

    Morning everyone.

No snow here, just another hard frost, though I understand Tarbert has a load. Certainly Glasgow has deep snow with more due. The ‘red’ warning ends at 10am though the ‘yellow’ one is still in force.

I’m not going down to DM’s and it feels weird. My new plan is to enjoy my free day and indulge in a bit of SFA. DM has had neighbours calling and friends emailing to offer help with any shopping, people are so kind.

My own stores will get raided today. I have a shelf full of big soups etc outside in the small barn, it’s about time they started to get used up. I was so cosy yesterday even though the high winds made the stove burn really fast even with the secondary air vent fully closed.

For those who are lacking sleep I hope you can manage a snooze later. Keep safe and warm folks, happy Wednesday and St David’s Day.

    Morning all

Not wishing to gloat but I slept well. I went to bed knackered though. My problem is that I wake up too early and can't get back off to sleep.

Bedding needs changing today...but to do that, I need to get out of bed first.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all
