I had to make the same cheesy egg dish in a cookery lesson. My mum was very disgruntled as it wasn't something that we'd eat (my mums cooking was very basic so anything exotic like this was met with much suspicion). Imagine her delight when it didn't make it home as I tripped up the stairs on the bus and spilt it all over the top deck....the bus driver wasn't as happy.9

My first cookery lesson was tea and toast, the second was stuffed baked potato and the third was stuffed baked apple - no idea after that. However I do remember making flapjacks which moght have been fine except the thermostat on the oven failed and all I had was burnt offerings.

The first thing we made at school was an apple crumble. I still make the same recipe now, although I memorised it long ago. My parents were insistent I was the one to make it at home as mine were “nicer”, but then my dad also said that about cups of tea. I’m sure they only said it so they didn’t have to do it, but to this day they insist I do it better 😂2025 decluttering: 4,019 🌟🥉🌟💐🏅🏅🌟🥈🏅🌟🏅💐💎🌟🏅🏆🌟🏅🌟

First school cooking lesson was cheese and potato pie - mashed potatoes with grated cheese, topped with more grated cheese and back in the oven until the cheese bubbled. Jellytotts I dropped my blackberry and apple crumble whilst running for the bus - the best Pyrex dish smashed and there was a purple stain of shame on the pavement for many weeks after.Lovely to hear about the cats. I have 2 rescue boys - no prizes for guessing their colour 😸. one was born in the rescue centre and is the most chilled cat I've ever known - it was suggested that I had him to help the older former stray feel more relaxed. Well anyway I feel for that marketing ploy and have never regretted it as he has the funniest personality and a great temperament. The other is a former stray who had been cruelly treated by local kids and was sooo scared when he came - hid, petrified and panting with fear behind the sofa. I found that at dusk he became less scared and gradually he was enticed further and further out from behind the sofa with the lure of dreamies.
as a former stray he is still very nervous when eating. I think he probably used to sneak into houses and steal food so he is always watching, eats a little, moves away, comes back again for a bit more. You might find the same with your former stray? However, now he is such an affectionate lad, never sits on my lap or wants to be picked up but he snuggles up close to me, purring very loudly. He is still spooked by men in trainers - I suspect he was kicked in a past life.Glad the tooth pain is subsiding.8 -
@QueenJess that was my first school cooking too.
Only after 4 miles on the bus, Mum renamed it "apple jumble".5 -
Hi Saturday Savers, Enjoyed reading your comments. Will post properly tomorrow, but just wanted to show you that I have finally got that wretched sewing-up finished. Sorry this isn't a better picture - I tried several angles but just couldn't seem to show that each colour of square is a different textured pattern. All the squares have moss stitch borders. It does look nice with the new bedroom colours, so I'm glad you all encouraged me with the dreaded sewing-up. Tired this evening. Soot woke us at bang on 5 am to let us know he was ready for his breakfast if anyone cba serving it. Then when I did get up, there was a nuclear level litter tray. I wisely went back to bed & by the time Mr F got up, the offending tray had been tipped over. Oh the forgotten joys of new cats who can't go outdoors yet.....
Wishing everyone a cosy evening. So cold this morning - popped out to fill up the bird feeders as Mr F had seen grumpy blue-tits, & couldn't feel my hands when I got back in.

Wow that's beautiful, well done you! A very neat job.
I feel like I want to ask about the trench for litter tray, if you don't mind...literally just a hole in the garden? Is there a specific kind of litter? We have two cats and every time we have to use the wheely bin I wonder if there's a better way?!8
