I’ve readThursday murder club and enjoyed it. Was better than I expected after reading some reviews. I would rate it as a light read not a gritty murder mystery.3

@Blackcats - I'm currently reading 'The new wilderness' by Diane Cook. Only started it yesterday. First impressions are that it's a bit different & good writing, so I'll see how I get on with it.

Hello Sunday Savers,
A chilly but DRY morning, apart from a tiny spell of drizzle. Useful progress in the garden. Hacked back a plant that had decided to stage a border takeover bid & re-planted with cosmos & larkspur. Then dug over half a bed in the veg garden, raked & limed it & planted out winter cabbages (gift from a kind person... you know who you are!) Thankfully didn't need to cut brassica collars as made the last lot from leftover pond liner & they were still good to go. Covered with own-brand enviromesh to keep white butterflies off. Stood the last of the summer bedding out in my hardening-off area. Mr F mowed the lawn & continued his Spring project of ivy removal from base of boundary hedge.
Need to go & assess steak supplies in a minute..... rump steak on offer from our local market butcher at 3 packs for £10. There is heaps more than we need for tonight's meal, so I want to make sure some is frozen for a future meal plan - prob pea & beef kerala - & an extra piece cooked to provide the protein for tomorrow's packed lunch salad box.
Was brave this morning. After shifting over 5kg between end of Jan & Easter, I had way too many treats between Easter & my birthday/May BH, so I have been pretending the scales don't exist. Braved them this morning & was relieved to see I am only actually 100g up, so I am going to be proper angelic over the coming week. I reckon I can wee that off!!
Enjoy the rest of the weekend,
F x

I laughed at the technique for minor weight calibration too!
I agree with cbsexec about Thursday Murder Club. I think I read with envy on Sun Addict's diary that she keeps a record of all the books she reads in a lovely notebook. As a child I loved writing book reviews (did it for fun, not for schoolwork). So if I had a lovely notebook, I would write an abridged book review along the lines of .......it's definitely an easy read/listen. I liked the characters. I know the location very well which makes it interesting. The plot would not stand up to close scrutiny and is often not very realistic but its a pleasant change from gritty murder mystery books. 7.5/10.
I read that the Thursday Murder Club was rushed to publication to get ahead of The Marlow Murder Club which in many ways is very similar. I nearly gave up on Marlow after the first chapter because I didn't really like one of the characters but she's grown on me and I think Marlow might be slightly better than Thursday.
I'll look up your current book now.3 -
@Blackcats - I think murder-mystery/crime novels, I'm more at the gritty end of the spectrum. I really enjoyed a sequence of four Scandi crime novels called 'The Oland Quartet'.I liked how the author (name eludes me, sorry) included a particular character in all the stories as it tied them all together - he was an interesting old man who had lived on the island forever & knew all the history. I bought them for my sister & she really liked them too.

Morning Petals!
Just having a break out on our coffee bench. That's coffee with an APPLE, not the piece of sourdough toast & home made marmalade my head was telling me I I really ought to eat for my own well-being.
Fab sunshine here this morning, but according to Mr F, the walking weather forecast, the rain is returning early afternoon. So I got a shift on early - 1st load of laundry pegged out, 2nd load already spinning, bed around pear tree weeded & forked over & last trays of cosmos, larkspur & echium planted out. I need to do my regular Monday budget updates, esp as Big Budget Day is hoving into view, also vacuum but they can wait till the rain comes. Also want to google a few more tips on pattern-matching fabric before cutting out the new bedroom curtains.
Ok, that's my caffiene levels topped up. Must crack on,
