Glad curtains are coming along. Just been watching a programme about a railway trip from Bergen to Oslo (to remind us of holidays that we hope will resume eventually) it reminded me of the Harry Hole books by Jo Nesbo which I like though they are a bit gritty. Don't know if you have read them as you seem to have similar Scandi tastes to me

I like the Harry Hole books too but his other books not so much.

@Tescodealqueen & @ladyholly - Yes, I do like Scandi-crime. Re Jo Nesbo's books, I've only read 'Headhunter' & 'The Snowman'. I read quite widely apart from the fantasy genre which I can't get on with at all.

I think I am quite stuck in my reading or maybe obsessive. Once I find something I like I have to read a series of books and in the correct order and I follow particular characters. Elizabeth Salander, Harry Hole, Jack Reacher. Harry Bosch, DCI Banks, DI Thorne, Wallendar, Vera, DI Perez, Kay Scarpetta, Temperance Brennan. do you see a theme? I may need therapy

I’ve been lurking, but love reading the posts. I’m trying to prepare for early retirement. Only two years till state pension so would live on small pension & savings. It certainly sharpens your attitude to spending when you think your income will reduce. Although I think I prefer health over wealth, and have worked for 46 years so have earned it I think.7

@Tescodealqueen Yes, I can see a theme there, m'dear. I would add DI Marnie Rowe (series by Sarah Hilary, which I'm working my way through) & Malin Fors from Mons Kallentoft's Swedish crime series. I really like both of these interesting characters.
@marionmgcars - Nice to hear from you. Do de-lurk occasionally, as I enjoy reading everybody's contributions. Yes, health over wealth for me too. I am a good way off state pension age, & Mr F another 5 years behind me, but we are still thinking ahead, saving, staying sensible & starting to plan.

Hello Sunday Sunbeams,
A glorious day here - not a cloud in the bluest sky we'be seen here for many a month.
Also rather glorious (thinking back to your laughs last weekend at my certainty I'd be able to 'wee off' my remaining re-gained 100g.....), it was Weigh Day this morning & I discovered I had lost 0.9 kg instead! That's a total of 6kg since the end of Jan despite the distinct lack of dieting which went on between Easter & mid-May. Today is Cheat Day - one a month as suggested in one of Dr Maralyn Glenville's books. Basically choose one day a month where I can eat what I want, so we went out for breakfast & I have baked a modest cake. It's a bit like Cinderella's ball, however, & stops at midnight, diet resuming then, to be followed until next month's designated Treat Day.
No jobs today. Reading in the garden & watching all the funny little sparrow squabbles.
Free vitamin D, I suppose!

Thanks Foxgloves will add those to the list. Though I think I have 14 DCI Banks to read, late to the party and the author seems very prolific. Congratulations on the weigh in5

I’m like you and Mr SA is 5 years younger than me. Caused quite a scandal back in the 80s when he was 18 and I was 23 🤣I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)6
