Oh I really hope the dental work does the trick foxgloves and that the cat is his old self soon enough. It's such a worry when they're poorly - I'm pleased the tests were all clear too.

Thanks all - Yes, it is a huge worry. Yesterday he ate about a quarter of a pouch & a tablespoonful of tuna. He refused most of the portion of tuna which contained his daily painkiller. I left a saucer of tuna out overnight & he had eaten a tiny amount more by this morning. He is nil by mouth from tonight ready for tomorrow's ordeal at the vet, so I must try to tempt him good & early. I have some hake in the freezer, I might poach him a piece of that. He feels so bony, I could cry.
However, sitting around stressing about him, plus worrying about my depressed best friend plus all the usual virus stuff/state of the UK, etc, etc, isn't going to butter any parsnips, is it, so I am going to crack on. I've already mixed up a sourdough. I did meal plans yesterday so I think I'll start with writing the shopping list then get on with some jobs. Back later,
Take care all,

Scrambled egg is good for them when teeth are sore as it’s so soft but has also has some protein in. Hope the trip tomorrow goes ok. I’m sure you’ve lots of things today to keep busy to keep your mind on other things.6

hope your cat was tempted to a few morsels, its so hard to get them to take medication, I don't know how they manage to know the meds are hidden in the food. Good luck on the feeds.6

Well its pay day tomorrow, so the big black book came out and I prepared another month's budget. I had a refund of £260 from Edinburgh Tattoo for 4 tickets booked for a family trip for my bother's 60th birthday. first time the tattoo has ever been cancelled, as it usually proceeds in all weather. I took my mother years ago and it was like a monsoon, but the show still went on. I have promised that I will rebuy the tickets for us next year. So must remember that amount stashed in my savings pot has to come out again. My starters attempt at gardening is coming along well, with four tomatoe plants donated from the girls at work, also 4 brussels sprouts seedlings that seem to be coming along well, and a few herbs. My chilli challenge have taken a long time to surface but now look as though I may get a few plants from them. just wondering how high they will grow and if they need staked. In the meantime, back to my nightmare lace shawl that I am trying to master.7

Purplefairy - I was just wondering about scrambled egg as a possibility for getting Cat to eat a few morsels. He does like scrambled egg - normally, he'd be hanging around waiting for an opportunity to try & pinch a lick of it from somebody else's plate. He has always been a greedy cat, that's why it is so hard to see him struggle to eat more than barely a teaspoon at a time. I am going to try offering him food until 8pm, when he is nil by mouth, but first, he needs to eat the tiny bit of F*lix left on his plate which has the rest of his painkiller in it. He's actually sitting outside the house in the rain, waiting for Mr F to get home from work. He adores Mr F & will wait for him even when he used to have a monthly shift when he wasn't home until 10.45pm. What dedication. I will remember scrambled egg for post-dental too. I remember how sore I was when I only had one tooth out & I suspect he is going to have a lot more out than that. He will be under anaesthetic though, so he won't be able to swear as much as I did when I was in the dentist chair trying (& failing) to be brave in the face of the pliers.

MarionMGCars - Yes, cats are a nightmare for taking medication. My first cat - a handsome big grey tabby - was the worst cat I've ever known for this. It didn't matter what we tried, he would suss that there was a tablet or some powder or a medicine in there somewhere. One day when I have more time, I will regale you with the story of when we tried to outwit him with some worming tablets. Oh my days, I've never forgotten it! We used an entire packet & he never did get a full dose. We were very wiley, but we couldn't get them past him, whatever we did..........I won't tell you what he did, as that will spoil the story.
Well done on the veggie growing endeavours. Chillies don't get that high, although it can depend on the variety. You can pinch them out once you think they are getting too tall, then they should put out some side shoots & get a bit bushier. I do sort of stake mine, but not with a tall tomato cane. I use shorter broken canes & even odd knitting needles if they just need propping up a bit. My best ever chilli supports were the wooden sticks from rockets! When there were much younger kids on our road, I'd go round our garden on Nov 6th collecting these up & they were just perfect for staking chillies! My cucumbers are supported with 2 long pieces of plastic plumber's pipe which we found in the shed when we moved in. They do the job, so I've kept them......seems better than adding them to landfill.

Hello Diary Readers,
Well, I did have quite a busy day as I like to be doing stuff, & I thought it would help to distract me from the sad little whiskered face which is looking an absolute picture of misery. I deal better with being ill myself than with sick cats. So, it was izzy-wizzy let's get bizzy for me this morning. I tidied up the kitchen, made a sourdough loaf, which has just come out of the oven & is smelling very enticing....what is it about hot bread? I have written the meal plans I did yesterday into my diary & done the grocery shopping list, as Mr F seems pretty sure he's going to do the weekly supermarket run tonight. I've checked off all the transactions off on my 'just for points' credit card statement & paid it in full. I responded to a Prolifc survey invitation to earn 13p - the survey had already filled up but there was a £6.50 one waiting with 2 more similarly renumerated parts to come later, so I did that & also a Ugov survey. Skyped my sister which was swapsies as I gave her a recipe & she reckoned she might have some spare fabric which would do for covering a couple of bits of my Nan's old Lloyd-Loom ottoman & laundry basket, so that may well be useful & would get me a stage closer to 'job done'. Unfortunately, my garden plans didn't progress very far because of on & off rain showers for most of today, but I did get all the fruiting vegetables fed. I also side-shooted & tied in all the tomatoes & staked the peppers & aubergines. I've made tomorrow's packed lunch & work snacks and had a good look through the fridge & fruit & vegetable baskets to make sure there's nothing in there desperate for using. I've done a little bit of filing & generally done a fair bit of 'putting away'......you know, where you've been walking past stuff all week & you finally just think 'I just can't look at that again!' so the house does look tidier. I'm going to do my big weekly clean tomorrow while Cat is at the vet. He hates the vacuum, so I think it will be kinder to do it when he is out of the house, as he will doubtless be feeling rough when he gets home. It will also ensure that I keep busy instead of overthinking.
Well, Mr F has just popped in, dumped his bag, grabbed the list & driven straight off to the supermarket so as I only need to heat up some batch-cooked curry from the freezer tonight & cook a bit of rice, I think I will read a bit more Icelandic crime.
Hope nobody has got caught in these heavy showers today. Our gardens will be loving it though.

Hope trip to the vets goes ok for puss foxgloves and you manage to get your vacuuming done whilst he’s out of the house.8
