Foxgloves and all aboard
Totally agree re keeping busy; i only hear the news once a day, in the morning as otherwise it feels overwhelming. Reading this thread is a much needed dose of sanity. Thanks for helping things be as normal as possible Humdinger x5 -
I only buy a very small amount at a time, Moving_forwards as they are only consumed by me. I always choose green ones, as I don't like very ripe bananas. That's why I only buy a few, as I know they will be eaten before they get riper than I like. I wouldn't throw over-ripe ones away though. They're fine in muffins, etc. I used to freeze very ripe ones for wine-making as several recipes suggested the addition of a black banana. I stopped wine making years ago when we moved into our current house. All my equipment is still up in the loft, though. Maybe I'll fetch it down at some point & revive the interest.

Today's plans: Mr F to supermarket with shopping list & hand-gel. Me - Cycle to butchers later. Those should be the only trips out today.
I need to progress garden jobs. I haven't written a list - there are so many arising daily with it being main growing season - I intend simply to get out there & see what I can achieve.
Oh, & I'm skyping my sister over coffee break.
Will pop back later & share any achievements. Wishing everyone as productive a day as possible in these strange times. Stay safe,

Im off out today.....How exciting
Ok its only to the supermarket for my weekly shop but hey its a break from the routine. I went a bit mad at the allotment yesterday and planted any seed I could find whether it be food or flower so will be interesting to see what the growing season brings. Its lovely and sunny here today so if the sunshine lasts I will be going again this afternoon.

It's lovely, CCL... it's a Lincolnshire speciality - a nice soft fruity bread. Slathered in butter with morning coffee, yum. Not that I'm relaxing my healthy eating till Easter..... & only then for a maximum of 4 days, as my jeans are defo feeling a bit looser.
Oooh, I could eat a slice now though. The local bakeries around here all make it.

Kantankrus - You have motivated me. I'm fetching the shed key & getting down the veggie garden right now!

Hello Diary Readers,
Another day of trying to keep busy & maintain my head in as good a space as possible at this truly dreadful time.
So Mr F's trip to the supermarket went smoothly.... he did get most things on our list - no Quorn mince, no disinfectant, no flour. Also low on cheese & yoghurts. My trip to the local butcher was only 50% successful. The cycle ride was enjoyable, despite the cold wind & took care of my fitness excursion for today. The 'actually getting to buy meat' side of things failed as the gates were closed right across the farm shop, announcing they are now closed. In subsequent online investigations, I did find out that they're still doing online deliveries, so if we can't get the two items we require in town tomorrow, we can email in a meat order.
OK, so that was my bike ride. I came home on the main road instead of through the village, as there was virtually no traffic.
Skyped my sister. Was a bit worried she hadn't been feeling too well, but no temperature & not Covid symptoms, thankfully.
Then off down to the veggie garden to see which of many, many jobs I could usefully do. Decided to edge, weed & thoroughly dig over the large vegetable bed next to my greenhouse. This is quite a big job for a not very tall or particularly strong 50-something with arthritic hands who had already been on a bike ride, but I enjoyed the fresh air & birdsong. I like a job where I can see my progress, & each time I paused for a breather & considered leaving the rest of it till tomorrow, I looked at the crumbly earth I'd forked over & all the lovely big earthworms doing their bit too, & decided to press on. The bits of grass I sliced off while edging have been added to the bald strip of used-to-be lawn at the back of the greenhouse. It might not be a very speedy or conventional way to tackle re-turfing, but it's free. I've got a good third of the bald bit covered now.
Tonight? Well no need to cook, apart from reheating & a bit of veg as I made enough fish pie yesterday to do two days. I feel shattered from my digging exertions...... am by the fire under 2 warm handmade blankets with my book by my side. I might watch that TV prog later about lifestyle changes & potential weightloss..... which is almost certainly going to say 'Eat less, move more', which however much I may wish for a magical fat dissolving enzyme to be discovered lurking in walnut whips, isn't going to happen!
Please take care everyone. I've even washed all our shopping bags on a hot wash today because they'd been up on the supermarket bag packing area where everyone else's bags had been. I think we are all feeling so very hygiene conscious & alert atm.

I bet you felt immensely satisfied when you saw your beautifully dug over vegetable patch. What are you going to grow there?
I've now got a strong craving for a walnut whip though 🤣.
Washing your bags is a good idea, although they could also sit for 72 hours as I don't think the virus will live for longer than that. We all have to be so hygiene conscious now! Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally
