  • Didnt get the London job, not a massive shock. Since I achieved my financial aim to be a high rate tax payer I have been aiming to be eligible for a Barclays Premier account. Looks like it will be another few years now.

I made an offer on a flat in the north today, it was under the asking price and was rejected. Will think over the next couple of days and may up the offer but certainly not to the asking price. It is overpriced in my opinion BUT possibly not as there is an utter lack of flats where I am moving to

  • Overpaid another £452.52, to get myself down to the lovely round number of £45,500.

will soon be offered new fix deals, I have my fingers crossed for something under 1% but will take anything under 1.5%. Can’t really complain though as I had 1.7% for the last three years which has been good.

still haven’t found anywhere to rent up north, beginning to panic now really

  • What an expensive few weeks it has been, and I suspect will be for the rest of the month.

I have made the move to the north, had to spend a week in a hotel before finally being able to move into my new flat on Friday.

hotel - £225 for the week
food - £60 for the week, really missed having a fridge in the room
    deposit - £200
    first months rent - £685
kitting out flat - £100 (duvet, pillows, crockery, cutlery etc)
    first food shop - £70
lending money to baby brother - £1,000

I get my final pay from my old job tomorrow but that will only be a three week month, and don’t get my first pay from my new job until the end of October. This is why I have savings, but it does feel like everything is going in the wrong direction at the moment

  • Well it has been quite a while since I have posted.

The offer for the flat was accepted and then several weeks later I was gazumped (love the word hate the event) at the time I was gutted and really upset about the whole thing but in hindsight it may have been for the best.

In February I moved from my short term rental flat to a new flat and signed up for a year long contract. I am much happier in the new flat, the location is much better, the neighbours are quiet. Unfortunately I am not too happy in my new job, if I am being completely honest my role could not exist and I don’t think it would make the slightest difference. I am determined to make it to September so I will have done a year in post but will then start thinking about what to do next. Really I want to go back to London and my lovely flat there.

money wise it has all been a bit all over the place for several months, HMRC changed my tax code so many hours on hold trying to get that sorted, lots of deposits being paid and rent upfront etc, I have been on two holidays abroad and am trying to enjoy money a bit more rather than save it all.

plus I am with Barclays and have this stupid card reader to access my online accounts that has broken and it is taking forever for me to get a new one so physically can’t overpay at the moment. Still moving the money to the savings account for overpayment so will manage it eventually.

When I get paid at the end of this month I should be on the correct tax code again so can update my SOA in the first post.

National negotiations are still ongoing regarding pay increases. At the moment 2.9% is agreed, that is the biggest annual increase that I have seen since working in HE and much better than the 0% and 1% from the last few years but still doesn’t bring us inline with cost of living etc. So I hope for a little more but will take 2.9%

Life sounds very up and down. Your job sounds frustrating. It's hard because we want to feel we are making a difference. What would you like to be doing?

I thought the barclays mobile pin sentry app - could be used from within the app itself. Also I think other card readers if you have them from other banks also often work.
