Interesting thread. I am moving in the next couple of weeks, busy packing (or rather should be!). We have decided not to take one sofa and one desk/bookcase with us. Everything else being left (cooker, fridge etc) is on the inventory so the buyer will know what they are getting.
What would you do - ask the EA to ask the buyer if we can leave the unwanted furniture behind?
Can't get rid until the last few days as they are being used - and we don't have transport to take them to the dump.0 -
Washing machine (had told them we didn't want it but they left it anyway) by a weird quirk of fate getting my own machine out was such a nightmare that we left it behind in the end so it was a bonus to have a working one already in situ
and a tin pub tray -bit rusty.Advertising larger. In an impulsive moment I stuck it on Ebay for 99p and it sold for £20 to an American who wanted it for his home bar and emailed me telling me how much he loved it
I believe that if you leave stuff behind and the buyer has to pay for removal thet can bill you for it so might be worth sticking the last few days stuff outside with a big note inviting anyone who wants them to take them or of course freecycleI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I'm quite gutted. We only found an old lampshade in the loft and some replacement kitchen doors all wrapped up.
I was quite excited to go up in the loft for the 1st time to see. My parents house we found 4 world war 2 gas masks in the loft. Should ebay them as they havent moved for the last 10 years.Starting debt @ LBM: £8436.51 (8/5/7)

When we moved in to our house five years ago we found...
Washing Machine (working), Electric Oven (old but unused, never connected as there was no cooker circuit), Miele Hoover, about 5000 paperback books (later collected by previous owner, filled a Transit with them) a rusty trailer, a metal bedframe (used to repair rusty trailer), a canoe, aluminum 2-section ladder, Sky box and dish, a Ham-radio aerial, a Hitachi stereo, a Phillips V2000 video player (the system used before VHS and Betamax!), a tea-urn, several old mattresses, 14 bin bags full of used blank audio cassettes and a box full of live bullets  .0 -

I would go to the EA but only after you've exchanged. Just explain the situation and the buyer might be understanding. If it's worth something they may be OK with it as they should at least be able to give it away.
Alternitively, why not put it on Freecycle to be removed the day you move out??Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0 -

My seller was worried about that so we supplied him with a letter inviting him to take or leave what he pleases without the worry of costs. The only proviso we made is that he undertook to surrendor what he left, as we didn't want to be liable for safekeeping items for him.
When we arrived there was a letter from him thanking us for extending the offer to him and relinquishing ownership of any items remaining in the house, meaning that we could dispose of any items within as we saw fit.Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0 -

Back in the 1970s my parents 'inherited' a large collection of empty booze bottles. I remember that when we were asked what we were doing for Keep Britain Tidy year, I said we were "getting rid of all the bottles at the end of the garden". Apparently my parents were the laughing stock at parent-teacher evening ...
More recently, when we moved from NZ back to the UK last year, we went through three skips. By the end, we didn't have time to sell anything, and there wasn't even enough time to give it away! However, we knew that whatever went into the skip was available for anyone who wanted it (no freecycle), and we left a note on it to say that they didn't need to ask. I doubt any one took the dirty breakfast pans from the last morning, when we had run out of steam!!!!!!!Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000 -
We had an assortment of stuff from an empty cat food bowl to a pitchfork.
The best thing was a proper old heavy concrete lawn roller - hidden in a hedge, as was a bizarre 4ft high dual cylinder hydraulic jack that's so big and unwieldy it will probably stay there for the people who buy from us!0
