    We were left with:
Settee and armchair - went straight to the tip after we sliced the bottom off for loose change.
Veneered Dining table - still have and want to give away on Freecycle - any takers here?? ;)
Small occasional table - to freecycle I think. I keep overlooking the damn thing!
Double pine bed - Mattress chucked and bed Freecycled
    Single Pine bed - ditto

What is it the rest of the time???

Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.

The house opposite us at the moment is undergoing a clearance and it seems everything is going in the skip outside! I spotted a Christmas tree in a box on top, and waited for the cover of darkness before retrieving it. It turns out that it's a 6ft pre-lit tree and it works perfect! We also got a few bags of videos, couple of ornaments (unchipped, despite being in the skip), a brass intrument - which we're thinking might actually be worth something as it's all engraved and has serial numbers, etc. We also got a cordless phone system (and downloaded the manual of the web), chrome bathroom basket, cookie jar and variosu other nick nacks.

We saw them filling the skip yesterday but you don't expect them to be throwing out half-decent stuff including a TV, video and stand! The house is up for rent so I think that the previous tenants have just gone and left a load of stuff behind which has now left the landlord with the task of clearing it.

I am tempted to put a note through asking if they have a washing machine to clear as mine has gone on the blink so it would be ideal until I can get a new one...! Or is that just cheeky...

I would defo ask them, they might just suggest you go inside and see if there's anything else you want. It's no skin off their nose who has the stuff, they just want shut of it all !

Yeah, I'm going to go across and post a note through. The other night I got a beautiful double tubular steel bed seetee from the road behind my Mum's. My mum had seen it at the side of the house earlier in the day so I went round and asked if the woman was throwing it out (I thought they may be freecycling it and had put it out for the person to collect. It turned out she had been waiting for the local council's collection service to take it but they hadn't arrived! A set of allen keys and half and hour later, we had it dismantled and in my car. It's replaced my large bed settee and created more space for me! It pays to ask...

a friend of mine moved into his first own home, the previous family had not removed their storage from the attic. He left it for a while to see if they would come back but when he needed the storage space himself he decided to empty it himself.
He found a mass of original star wars toys, records, old toys, a commodore 64 with a stack of games and some paintings and vases plus a load of other stuff.
The lot was sold in auctions and car boot sales and he got around £400 or so for it, that was back in 1994ish

The first house we moved into down here had a 1930s wardrobe unit. It had hanging space and shelves that were labelled for things like shirts, collars etc. It was from the era when collars were a separate clothing item.

We also came accross a bed and a sofabed. These were actually quite handy, as we moved in at a moment's notice. Our furniture was in storage and we had to give a minimum of a weeks notice to get it out. It also meant that we could decorate with impunity rather than panicking about getting paint etc all over our funiture.

The wardrobe eventually went to a rented property of ours and the bed got sold.

Quite agree, they can only say no.

We were chucking out an old settee when a neighbour who had just moved in asked if he could have it. It had been outside for a few days whilst we were deciding how to get rid of it. We told him that we think it ma have been rained on, he replied "Well we haven't got anything so we don't mind"

We were only too pleased that he took it. I even gave him a hand with it to his house!

Having just cleared a house we would have been just as pleased if anyone asked. It seems people are too reserved to do so sometimes.
