NO DRINKING in rental property - legal or not?

  • Alcohol is haram (forbidden) according to the Quran.
Any Muslim who drinks alcohol is not being very islamic in practice.
You've never met a person who was born in Britain and also Muslim???

People of the Islamic faith have been living here for generations, and the ones born here, and their children born here, are as British as you and me.

Not all Muslims don't drink. Not all British people of other/no religions drink - there are plenty who do not for all kinds of health reasons. "Our way of life" does not automatically equal drinking alcohol.

You certainly do not speak for me.
  • All the properties are in a predominately Muslim area.

Until he responds we do not know for certain, but we can certainly speculate it is down to religious reasons.
Plenty of rentals have clauses saying "No smokers, no DSS, no pets". Why should "No alcohol" be any different?

Strange how you don't see the racist bigots claiming that the credo of the Salvation Army "is not our way of life" or any of the other numerous religions that include abstinence from alcohol in their doctrines - as long as most of their adherents are white folk, that is.

Anyway - who is to say what the landlord's reasons are for this clause? Has anyone asked him? Perhaps it was just easier to write "No alcohol" than "No constantly getting pished at all times of the day and night, annoying the neighbours, slinging empty beer cans out of the window into next door's garden, throwing up into their letterbox and offering alcopops to the 14 year old girl who lives two doors down." Which, in short, is what one of the tenants of a friend did, and continued to do despite police intervention, until forcibly evicted. I'm not sure if he specifies "No alcohol" now but I could understand it if he did, and it has nothing to do with him being a Muslim.

I think MITSTM has a point about the veiled racism. How many white people are moslems? Then again, unless you were, why the hell would you want to live anywhere near a mosque anyway? To be woken up at 5am or whenever it is? Knickers to that.

I did think of him; I did not claim there are none. No idea whether he gave up the demon drink on conversion but it wouldn't surprise me.

Beause there are geuine reasons for the others.

    Not discrimination due to ethnicity.
What is the "genuine reason" for "No DSS"? For "No pets"? (what harm does a goldfish do?)

p.s. if you are going to take umbrage over this and defend the bigoted comments above, at least try to educate yourself in the difference between ethnicity and religion.
Come on people, it's not difficult: lose means to be unable to find, loose means not being fixed in place. So if you have a hole in your pocket you might lose your loose change.

I know Muslims who drink. Some drink beer and wine but draw the line at spirits whilst others enjoy a good single malt. Yes consuming anything that causes intoxication is haram but not everyone follows their religion to the letter.

I’m sure you will find Christians who covet their neighbour’s !!! if you look for them or Jews who enjoy bacon sandwiches.

"Alcohol drinker" is not an ethnicity.
  • Yes, there are some, but it's not very common - and anyone that follows the Quran will not be drinking alcohol.

There are many Muslims that do not read the Quran and only visit the mosque occasionally. But there's a difference between someone claiming to be religious and someone who is actually practising their faith.

It says "no drinking". I've asked him for what reason, but he does not reply.

I think you are highly unlikely to get a reply because, as far as he's concerned, if you have to ask, you're not the sort of tenant he's looking for ;)

That did rather make me grin many years back when I had a couple of Islamic boyfriends - and they and their friends most certainly did drink:rotfl:- whilst I was well aware they "shouldn't" be according to that - but said nowt obviously (as I intended to keep on having my drinks I wanted).
