Somehow the morning has become afternoon...
Welcome home Ionafan. I'm glad you had a lovely break.
We went out to a friend's last night for her birthday. A lovely evening was had, but I just may have consumed a tad much red wine. Hence the go slow this morning. The DW has been run and emptied, the washing is blowing around outside and I have managed a long walk in the sunshine, which probably helped the wine head. I'm tempted to go outside in the garden while it's sunny, but there is some paperwork and bill paying that needs doing. Decisions, decisions.0 -
Been awol for a couple of days thanks to lupus flare; I've been dealing with looking after Suzie, and not bothering with anything non-essential; so the bungalow is looking a tad "lived-in" at present.
Suzie goes home tomorrow; so hopefully Tuesday to Friday I can get the place back up to scratch (flare permitting; this one seems reluctant to let up).
Had my compulsory 6 monthly meds review at the Dr surgery yesterday; I was in and out like a dose of salts, just said I was there to get 6 months more meds authorised and didn't give her a lot of chance to ask "inconvenient questions".
Am I the only person who, if someone gave me chocolates and I put them in the cupboard, would actually forget they were there? If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
... and it occurs to me that, when it was apparent I was struggling with a volunteer role (due to how down I was) someone could have offered to help. So next time I am 'spoken' to I just might point that out. Just because I'm out of the house, clean, dressed, ready for the day ahead it doesn't, actually, mean I am coping and everything is alright.
I often wondered why people around us can't bring themselves to say, 'Can I help?' when someone is struggling. It really is very easy, but in my experience when things are at their toughest very few do. Those that do I count as friends for life.
WM x 4 this morning, all blowing out on the sundeck. OH has scrubbed copious numbers of bloodspots where Devil Cat sprinkled his precious redstuff on sofas, clothes and carpet yesterday. He's now squawking for food, having eaten a huge amount overnight, so although it takes a bit of time to clear up after him, he's still very much part of the family. The vets have never come across a cat that's managed to keep himself going with this condition for quite so long. Amazing little chap. OH is now so skilled at giving him pills that Devil Cat doesn't even try to avoid it.Better is good enough.0 -
OMG!!!! I just got a text from school telling parents to dress their children in appropriate clothing and footwear as it is going to be cold!!! Talk about not crediting parents with having a brain.. it shows how stupid the schools think parents are! We are just parents so obviously thick as pig droppings!! I am rather insulted.. I could run rings around them intellectually!!! How flipping rude! ... and a second one.. if it does snow the children will only be allowed out if they have gloves and boots... tbh, if it is snowy I don't want my children out because once they are cold it takes forever to get them warm and how are they supposed to learn if they are cold and wet?! I have only ever seen staff dressed inappropriately and parents, the children always look well prepared!.. and I am super observant about such things.
The last time we had any significant snow down here, lots of children were walked to school in skirts, ankle socks, no gloves, no hats and only thin little jackets. I'm sure that a Snow Day was called for subsequent days purely because some parents are too stupid to think about keeping their children warm and safe.
It's no better at High School - I get teenagers coming to see me just to proudly show off that they've finally been bought a new pair of shoes, I regularly repair ones that soles have come off and are very obviously too small for the child concerned and very few have decent coats. Slightly worried about the girls, as they've almost all got the 'skirt' uniform, which doesn't include a jumper or cardigan - and the rules say nobody is allowed to wear T-shirts under shirts and that hoodies are banned. I will be ignoring all uniform rules this week, as it's more important that they are warm.
(Although I am rather hoping for a boiler failure/school closure, tbh.)I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

The high school here they aren't allowed to wear boots or hats or gloves or scarves and when DD1 was there they banned non-school uniform coats so they were supposed to go to school in a polo shirt, think acrylic jumper, fleece jacket and a kagoule... I flipped my parental lid and the next year they introduced warm winter coats. Having too little money to live on is not a crime, it is a crime the families are allowed to have that little money.
I don't think I have even seen a child without a coat at the primary mine are at.. maybe we just have a full compliment of sensible parents which makes the text even more insulting!.. though plenty of the bigger children have skirts and socks and no hats, gloves and scarves because they refuse to wear them, what are you supposed to do when they are 10+ you can't force them to keep on hats and stuff? My brother used to go to school in the snow wearing just the polo shirt.. he was purple with cold.
I'd be less insulted if it was sent as a reminder or a weather warning or even addressed to the children but it was worded like a 'because you are too stupid to raise your own children'.. Maybe they need reminding of the injuries my children sustained this month and the 7 times my daughters glasses have had to be repaired since September or the sexual harassment Squeak is having to tolerate because they don't deem it serious enough because they are 7 and 8.. They don't have this at home!
I REALLY wish I was focused enough to homeschool... Anyway, it is a good school, they educate my children well so I'm not going to grumble too much.. I think a lot of people who work with children forget sometimes adults get miffed when you talk to them in that condescending tone they use for the children.
DD2 just brought her bf round here.. and she got snotty when I said she couldn't take him upstairs while she got changed .. in DD3's room where she is slobbing in her pjs.. he saw what I meant and was fine about it.. we had a nice discussion.. he was talking to me about her like it was parents evening lol.. he is a teacher in a SEN school.
I love my new chair .. it is much smaller than my old one, and firm and upright... ok ok... I have a nanna chair!!! lol Hopefully my hip will like it too.

Do tell us what the song is, please Piggers.
I get what you mean about the texts though - I sent one to remind children to bring their reading bag. I had to tell the parent who queried the text that it was aimed at one family (whose child rarely brings it) - but that I didn't want to single them out - so everyone in that reading group got the text! It truly is a minefield.
Maiden emptied and away. It all strats again tomorrow but for now the laundry is up to date.
Older cat demanded to be fussed (she's been in a few hours - woot) so that happened. We get loads of reading book/homework reminders but they are addressed to the class.
and THIS SONG I spend hours laid watching OH sleep.. and the children.. I am aware of my freakishness.

Well I have read DH the riot act and it seems to have worked! He made a lovely dinner, generally tidied up and is now putting the children to bed.
The DW will go on before bed, and I have one load of clothes over the airer drying by the woodburner, and another load currently in the WM which will go over the heated airer when I go to bed.
I will also mop the kitchen floor and downstairs toilet floor before heading to bed. Looking forward to watching Call the Midwife with a cuppa - eaten lots of Yorkshire puds so slinkydom may elude me this week!
LW - I hope you are feeling better tomorrow xx
Did I mention the kids are back at school tomorrow?! :rotfl:
See you all on the new thread xxMFW

Hi all
I may be too late for the old Fred, but. Lots of washing done, some paid stuff - yes 7 days in a row cos DH is unlikely to work much this week given the weather forecast so someone has to try and bring some money into our desperate looking bank account. How I wish sometimes he had a "normal" job. Rant over.
Been for a short bike ride in the sun, grocery shopping done, HM burgers for tea,
Tears from DS2 over his college report (which actually wasnt that bad), he is so hard on himself. Calmer now. Wish college wouldnt bang on about what he might do at University all the time, he doesnt need the pressure right now, but thats another story.
Off to get bags packed for tomorrow, might call at job no. 2 tomorrow afternoon as I might not get there for the rest of the week if the forecast is right!0
