You have kids. There is always stuff with kids. I'm sure there's stuff to sell. Unless you're really good at keeping on top of it. I realise your situation is different living with family so you probably already got rid of it but you'd be amazed at what you can sell. I cannot keep on top of stuff here. 3 huge bags to charity yesterday and I'm still struggling to see floor. There's a brilliant thread on here about mad stuff people sell on eBay. Like old perfume bottles.
Im like you and have to murder debt first, savings later. But I'm starting to think savings are more important. I don't know. It's very hard to unlearn the credit life xxx
    Loan 1 £5200/£8000
    Loan 2 £300/£5800
    Total £5500/£13800
  • We have loads of kids stuff but we've made a deal that any of there stuff that they sell they get the money to spend on other stuff of there choosing or to save (there better at saving then i am) i think once i get down to the 4 big creditors im going to relook at putting abit aside each month and go from there

What a refreshing post. Massive respect to you for growing a pair, facing up to the task at hand and going about it with so much gusto! Lowell, BW Legal. quickquid, yep, all familiar been there done that but thankfully paid most of them off, £956 left to clear with Cabot which I should be able to do in next 3 months.

My issue is saving for deposit for mortgage, and as you are waiting for payday to take a chunk out of your outstanding balance, im waiting to deposit some money into my savings pot. Principal is same, need patience, and before you know it you will be debt free and saving too.

I have found writing down a plan month by month helped me, it might be Aug next year before me and the wife can save enough, but knowing there is an end date, a goal, brings hope and focus. Keep up with the hard work and keep up with the updates!
  • Huge congrats on that GMAC i cant wait to see my figure get into 4 figures let alone 3. the writing a plan is a great idea and really does help make the finish line seem that little bit closer. the toughest part is trying to throw everything i can at it but also still allowing myself a little bit of fun e.g activities at the weekends with the kids etc. but so far all is going well and we have a week away at butlins next month to look forward to which all food etc is already paid for in full thanks to gifts from the wedding.

  • Happy Monday everyone hope all are ok.
Not a bad day here just shy of my targer on 16.4k remaining but only by £18 and just waiting for everything to leave my account before overpaying anything else but pretty sure i should still have around £150 to play with.
Honestly cant believe ive paid off 2k already still disgusted i ever let it get that bad but making ammends now and it will not happen again. Just worked out a percentage and currently sitting at 10.66%paid which im quite chuffed with. Pretty much a no spend weekend for me other then a couple of essentials and a £1 washing up bowl to build a little pond with the kids in the garden. Roll on tomorrow so i can cross that 2k threshold

  • Hi everyone, I've just joined the forum and I'm looking for some good debt management tips. I want to be able to manage my expenses so that I don't go into overdraft and pile up a huge debt.

Silver I'd suggest you start by starting your own thread and posting about your situation and what you're trying to achieve. Then fill in a SOA (statement of affairs) to show your incomings and outgoings in details (if you start your own thread someone will be along quickly to give you a link for one). This way people will be able to suggest where you could save money and where best to start.
