  • Hey everyone....ive been very busy having to work in IKEA to update you all!

We had the friends and family day on Sunday in store and it was fantastic! The crowd still had to queue though....but it added to the excitement! They sold 6 kitchens and took far more money that expected for such a day ( over 100k) i would judge that there were about 1500-2000 people there so it wasnt too bad......until you got to the tills! It was manic to say the least with every checkout having long long queues and im affraid this will probably be the norm from the beginning so dont expect to whizz through after a few hours shopping as you'll probably wait another 30mins or so!
All in all it was a good day and hopefully has prepared the staff for Thursday although i dont think anything would prepare you for whats about to happen, lol. Im working from 5-9pm so i will probably need to leave about 3pm tomorrow to get in on time!
Im hoping to find out the best time for you all to go if its abit quieter ect and maybe what offers are comming up-the table they have as the opening offer is £29.99 instead of £89.99 and its lovely as i was sitting at them last night!
The childrens play area is brill,my kids had a ball and didnt want to leave! Be prepared to fill in a medical form for each child and this backs up the queue there aswell (i had a daddy infront of me who didnt know the kids birth dates and who their doctor was ect and he was v.embarrassed!) They page you when its time to collect them again (45mins) but again beware of just how big the place is...and theres nothing worse than hearing '' would mrs.smith please return to the creshe to remove the screaming child you left here 1hr ago!!)'' over the tannoy!
Will let you know what its like on the day......if i make it out (or in for that matter)
    xxxLaura.

Thanks, and good luck with the new job

How long will it take before the tele is being offered to stationary drivers queueing for entry into Ikea? Will the current traffic system cope.Silly question perhaps:D

got my card today, plus another two duplicate letters with £10 off and £2.50 stuff. I am determined not to go there until january, so that means the vouchers will have expired by then. aww well ....
  • The current traffic system is laughable!!!!!!!
For a start when you come in from the Bangor direction, over the flyover bit you automatically end up in the right hand lane meaning you are in the right lane to go round the round a bout for B and Q but to goto IKEA you have to signal left to enter the left lane to get to IKEA......the traffic comming in from Belfast has the right of way and im not confident about other people letting you in front of them!!!! The traffic will tail back from both directions!
On a different note, does everyone know that chambers coaches are doing a days shopping trip to IKEA from anywhere in Northern Ireland for £10,which i think is quite reasonable as they are very comfy!!( i dont work for chambers by the way, lol) would be quite good for the older shoppers who perhaps dont have access to a car ect but on a REAL moneysaving note...you could spend the whole day there as the resturant is really cheap and you can sit watching the planes taking off and landing whilst getting coffee/tea re filled for free! which means saving on oil as you can turn the heating off for the whole day haha.
Id be surprised if the tele guys arnt onto that already......

Family Card arrived today - just in time I suppose. I'm going to go down for a look about sometime in December but I'll park somewhere in town and cycle over. Won't be able to buy anything too bulky but I'll get my vouchers used somehow! ;)

it was in the newspaper last week that they are expecting traffic to be queued back to bangor on the motorway

how on earth are staff from other businesses ment to get in on time? fair enough if they had a big enough slip road to contend with the extra demand there will be but there isnt and its going to be a right nightmare for a few days

Steer clear of Coventry city centre on Sunday 16th December if you don't want to visit the new Ikea, it will be mayhem!!

I can't wait til it opens, but I won't be going near it until next year:rotfl: It will be mental tomorrow and for the next few months. Goodness help anyone flying from the city airport tomorrow:eek: you may leave plenty of time to get there.

Good luck Happymummy24-7 for tomorrow:beer: let us know what it was like.

Sainsburys & B&Q are concerned about the impact on their business if it turns out to be a junction to avoid
  • One of the local radio stations (Cool FM i think) are broadcasting from Ikea and will apparrently be taking requests from 9am from stranded sorry eagerly queueing shoppers. First request might be Catatonia and Roadrage!!
Just as well contingency plans are in place if there is too much traffic. This includes closing the slip roads at IKEA. That should improve things !!

Sainsburys and B&Q should be concerned because im sure im not the only person who will avoid this area for the next wee while!
