I sucsessfully unlocked the phone using the website info posted here(many thanks)
However when I install the O2 sim from my philips C12 ,  all my phone numbers displayed correctly (so it must be able to read the sim), but when i try to call a number I get  "no network coverage"message.
I tried a friends Vodaphone sim and that worked ok, so anyone any ideas why it dosent like my  O2 sim ?

    thanks
    Marc
  • hi, you need to go into the menu, settings, phone settings and choose option 6 or 7, choose manual, then it will search for a couple of seconds and should come up with a menu where you can select 02/orange/vodafone...etc.
    Hope you've sorted it :)

You need to do 2 separate procedures to festore a 7600 to factory-fresh.

    1. Bog-standard unlock using code.
    2. Restore the GSm/UMTS option to FORCE phone to only ever use 2g like a normal phone. As default, a 3 7600 will look for any 3g service related to your network. Even if you only have a 2g contract. This is why folks are having problems with this

So, in summary, as standard a 3 7600 is effectively locked in 2 different ways. There however is a "but".

If you current network is not rolling out 3g services, you can get away with only step 1. For the time being!

I just bought a serial data cable for about 8 quid and the flash software is free to download. Though I have yet to recieve/use this, in theory this will complete the 'unlock' process

I tried the manual search you mention and that did find O2 as a 2g only service and I selected it, but it still didnt work, same error message as before(the Voda sim just worked straigtaway with no config at all)
One thing that may be a problem , my "O2" sim is actually a "BT celnet" sim (ie the phone displays BT celnet not O2) could this be the problem ?

The c12 sims were linked wit the phones to prevent the "free best friend" or "u" 5p messages from carrying on indefinatly that is why it will not work in your new nokia, i am afraid the only way round this is to get a new sim which does not have these options.

  • i don't know if this is allowed, but i bought a few 7600's and used the data cable to unlock the menu option, i am trying to recoup the cost of the cable and some ebay fees so see http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=6339920052&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT
    for details on my service.

If advertising is not allowed please just edit this post or tell me to put it somewhere else. Thanks

    EDIT
The ebay item has been removed because ebay think it is illegal, which it is not. Email me if you are still interested.

Anyone who wants one Factory Reset, the best thing to do is go to your local Nokia Service Centre (100s around the country) and ask then to do a software upgrade.

I went to a nearby Carphone Warehouse one and they did it for nothing!

thats good news. I tried my local service centre (there are 2) a CPW and an independant one and both refused to do it unless i could show them some real fault.
