Hi all, I'm in a bit of bother because I've sold my phone to somebody for use on Virgin network on the condition that I will give a refund if it doesnt work.

She's used the phone successfully for a few days but says she can't access her voicemail as Virgin is requesting a PIN number. She says this doesnt happen when she uses her old phone. I sold it for £100 and now she has seen it in Carphone Warehouse for £44.95 - I wonder if that is the real problem.

Has anyone unlocked one but not flashed it then got it to work on Virgin? Or heard of this problem on Virgin before?

  • This is at your risk, but here's my guide to unlocking the phone (have just done it)...

    Download:
    http://www.!!!!!!.co.uk/7600-unlock/7600.zip

Unzip into it's own directory, and run Code Calculator 5.4.exe

Now, turn on your 7600 without a sim in.
Type in *#06# to get it's IMEI.

They that into the IMEI field in the calculator, set the network to:
    United Kingdom
    Hutchison 3G (3)

    Select ASIC 7

Tick use Box serial ID, and type in 32802

Hit Calculate - and use number 7 by typing it into the phone.

    For example, my IMEI is 351547002897762 and that generated #pw+ 43 47 97 35 32 77 11 5 +7#

(p,w and + typed in using * key.). After typing in the final #, you should see a nice message indicating that the restriction is now off.

Hope that helps - but please don't blame me if anything goes wrong. Don't forget, type a code in 5 times, and you won't be able to unlock it using codes; you'll need to get it unlocked using a cable.

better to set box serial to 32779
use code 7 - works everytime

i think default pin on virgin mobile is 7890
was prob ok on last phone if it was a virgin phone, as the settings would have been preset at factory

  • the 7600 is unlocked the same as any dct-4 nokia, this will let it accept any working sim.
the problem lies with the '3' software in the fone which forces it to continually look for a 3g network, which is no ggod if your using a sim from orange or vodafone (or any network other than '3')
This doesnt affect everyone, best bet is to try it and see.
If you are affected, the fone will constantly drop signal :'(
    not much use.
this can be corrected by selecting '2g only' from the 'phone settings' menu.
But heres the catch (theres always one isnt there!)...
The '3' software on the fone has removed the option to do this. If you go into the fones menu and go to 'phone settings' and scroll down - now watch the number in the top right hand corner of the screen - the option you need is option number 7, but you will notice the number in the screen corner will jump from 6 to 8.
This missing option can be restored (as megazoid mentioned earlier) by using a service box eg griffin or prodigy.
heres a pic of one i restored the missing option to so you can see what im talking about...

Big thank you to shadow123. got my new nokia 7600 today and unlocked it using his method and hey presto . it now has an o2 sim card in it. will try it for a while and if I like it I will get it the factory reset done.

    CJB ;D
  • the dct4 calcs floating around the web should all work fine, but it is imperative that you enter the correct details into both the calc and your 7600.

Heres the good bit - if youve got a pay monthly connection with '3' and you get ur 7600 unlocked and the missing menu restored, by setting the fone to 'GSM network mode' you can enjoy the great value priceplans from '3' but never leave the o2 network ;D
