It doesn't say if they were defended or not. I think the comments that appear with the article sums up the reporting of this

I can't see any reference to a court case in that, its just stating companies were demanding money off people.0 -

Your posts are very confrontational and bordering on unpleasant (quote "silly cow still hasn't apologised to me" unquote). Since you're so hot on the rules of MSE, you should take note of the one that says - Pls be nice to all MoneySavers. There's no such thing as a stupid question, and even if you disagree courtesy helps.
So, you start off with a bit of sarcasm, which is not courteous in the least, then go on and explain that you should Pls be nice to all MoneySavers
Strange that one.
You also have no idea what the silly woman was on about with regards to his disgraceful comments she made about me in the thread concerned. I think calling her a silly cow was rather nice of me.
Its strange you don't pick up onCHRISSYG wrote:ooh tell it to someone who cares! im not the one facing a £50 fine for stupidity.

You're going to rebuke these people how?0 -
i really dont think somebody saying they dont care is the same as a personal insult calling someone a cow.
aaanyway we shoudl probably keep this on topic0 -
I think those comments are best left in that thread, as it isnt relevant to this one. from reading the link I posted, its clear to me that paying the penalty would be the best option. And that is my opinion, I am less likely to be swayed by someone on a forum telling me that it is worth taking the risk in not paying. And maybe it is, but that is your opinion, of which everybody is entitled to.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A
"Marleyboy you are a legend!"
MarleyBoy "You are the Greatest"
Marleyboy You Are A Legend!
Marleyboy speaks sense
marleyboy (total legend)
Marleyboy - You are, indeed, a legend.0 -

I was pointing that your statement "that as far as I am aware, not one case of someone being pursued for this in court successfully" was not correct, and that cases have made it as far as the courts. Whether the cases were defensible or not is an entirely separate matter.0 -
So basically theres no point in paying for parking again?
I think the fine is meant to act as a deterrent. If all you ever had to do was pay the original cost of the ticket if you didn't park no-one would bother paying for parking again, they'd just see if they could get away with it.
Why should it only be the council who can stop people taking the !!!! and parking where they like & when they like. Asda just wants to help it's shoppers (the ones who can also read signs about charges about 99.99% of people) so they can actually park.
The fine is meant to act as a deterrant, you're right but all i'm saying is they're not allowed to do this. You must try and see it from the legal point of view. If someone doesn't pay the £1 then the company has lost out on their £1 that they are entitled to. The solution to this is that they are given the £1 they're owned, It's not right for them to then just make up a figure 50x that and say you owe them that now.
I think too many people interpret my posts as my personal opinions on this matter, they're not, I don't agree with people parking for free and going off somewhere else when the car park is provided for patrons of the supermarket but from a purely legal point of view, which is all the OP is interested in that doesn't matter a jot so, unlike many posters, i can realise there's no point in voicing this opinion. I don't make the law, just tell you what it is.Bought, not Brought0 -

And WHY would I be aware of that case, as it would seem to be undefended. I don't, beleive it or not, live in that town, or receive that paper. If every undefended case appeared in print you'd have a heck of a lot of data.
(the reporting on that is also so unbeleivably bad as to be written by the office junior on his lunch break)
Now I am aware of it, and as it would seem to be undefended, it holds absolutely no relevance whatsoever.
Point me to any legal precedence, or law, where this invoice has to be paid.0 -

You seem to be grasping at straws here to prove some sort of point. What that is I haven't a clue, or even care. If it concerns you that I called 'someone' a cow, then search for the original post and see how justified I was considering this persons attacks on me.
I also thought you didn't care about this, as this
ooh tell it to someone who cares! im not the one facing a £50 fine for stupidity.
seems to have meet with your approval. Agreeing that the OP is Stupid also seems to me to be a "personal insult", although you haven't raised this with bookemdano, marleyboy or CHRISSYG, so I would assume its just a personal thing against me.
But like you say, whats the point in this thread now. No-one has proved that the invoice must be paid, everything seems to be in favour of not paying, and theres little point of me harking on about this. Either the OP gets more info and fights this, or they pay up.
If I were running this operation, I'd have pursued everyone in court. However, the lack of fight in these organizations rings alarm bells.
If it was me I'd fight, but I wouldn't be in that situation in the first place.0 -
pay the fine, and as already stated take it as a lesson. Your lucky they did not wheel clamp you or you'd be paying £200 to have that removed!!!0

Er, neither do I, but it wasn't difficult to find it. I just assumed that someone who stated something was fact, would have done some cursory checks to make sure that their statement was true.0
