    Thanks folks,
Shocked to see the term 'sanitary' being used to describe menstrual/period products in 2021 by money saving expert.

Using this term is stigmatising as it suggests that periods are dirty and unclean which is not the case. Menstruating people should not have to deal with this stigma and ignorant beliefs, which is reinforced (albeit not so much as it used to be) by this kind of language.

This needs to be considered and changed.

How can I make this point to Money saving expert teams and get them to notice without resorting to Twitter?
I have no problem being called that it.  There are more important things we need to be offended about.  I am a woman i have periods/menstruate, though been times when i had pain and messed myself up wished i did not and use sanitary pads.

  • I made the switch to a cup recently, and I have to admit I was impressed. They're not cheap initially, but I think over the years the price will at least even out, and the environmental benefits are huge.

They're a bit tricky to get the hang of at first (I recommend trying with some lube before using for real - I didn't and wish I had) and the stem irritated me so much I had to cut it off. Also, for me, placing it needs me to have a foot up on the edge of the bath.

But once I had got used to all those, I found it was much more comfortable than traditional products, and it holds a lot more so there's less changing.

There's a website that helps pick which type might be most suitable, can't remember it now but sure Google could find it!

Oh, and one last thing - don't be alarmed by the size! Yes, they look huge at first, but that's because the nearest comparable is a fresh tampon!!!

Surely making your own reusable pads is one of the cheapest and most effective options out there?

A friend of mine is a volunteer making pads for women overseas via https://www.thepachamamaproject.org/ so maybe sign up for that and make some for others, too!
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

The reusable nappy website, the nappy lady, has a sister website called the period lady.

    https://www.theperiodlady.co.uk/

Wouldn't say they're cheap but they offer really good resources/guides. They also have a questionnaire where you can answer questions and they'll recommend the best menstrual cup, knickers or reusable pads for you.

All the products they stock tend to be good quality too.

For reusables I can recommend Cheeky Wipes for pads.  They often do bundles and every week they have a Tuesday saver offer on certain items.  Not cheap-cheap but economical in the long run if you can afford the upfront cost.

(I haven't tried their period pants, although I would have done if I'd found them before buying ModiBodi.)

Slightly off subject, but I see Aldi has tampons & pads in their toilets if anyone is caught short. (These are free)

Lots of places do now, but it is important to be considerate to others who may need them, so you shouldn't just sweep those provided into your bag.

I certainly was not suggesting that you do!

Aldi own brand panty liners are cheap  (and fine) but the long ones are hard to come by- that mixed box problem! Loads of standard, few large, no long!

not  sure  if  others  have  posted  but  remember  in  Scotland  there is  free  period  provision  .  every  school  library  public  /  council  building  should  have   free   period  products   and  if  you  look  on  your  local  council  web  site  you  can  get  sent  to  you   .  My  council   sends  about  3  months  worth   and  encourages   you  to  try   reusable  methods  -  period  pants  and   moon  cups   .
