Whatever change to the forum software caused this should really be changed back.

It's one thing suggesting people with a particular device turn off a feature just to post legibly on this one site, but there is an archive of posts going back years, which now includes many posts that have become very hard to read.

For apostrophes and inverted commas, when these appear in your post you can go back and edit them

This is not true for the euro currency symbol. Four attempts to correct it failed.

I agree with people who point out the corrupted character problem has been imported into old posts that didn't show it when originally posted.
  • Really? You call that a "fix"?

It's a workaround. Turning off a perfectly functional feature on a piece of software to cover over a bug in another piece of software.

Roll back the software update. We've also lost the ability to flag spam as well.

  • Seems no one in MSE land can bothered to respond to our complaint that their explanation for the problem is total BS.
  • Have just switched my smart punctuation off to see if it's better now.
  • Ah, that's good! Thanks MSE Andrea!
  • Still broken. This isn!!!8217;t an iOS problem, it!!!8217;s your forum software.

and the same people that are having the problem continue to try to use the apostrophe and equally continue to complain about it afterwards when it doesn't work.

It's in your own hands, the forum team obviously is not in a hurry to fix the problem, it's up to the users to stop using the apostrophe and let the grammar police take a run and jump.
  • iOS auto corrects and inserts missing apostrophes in most cases and I!!!8217;m not about to start going over every post to edit them all out!
