Glad I came across this thread before taking our home insurance with Policy Expert. Will move swiftly on to a provider with a more reliable underwriter.
We had our house insured with them when someone crashed his car into at 1 am on a Sunday morning, causing significant damage and temporarily making the house uninhabitable. The so-called emergency number for Policy Expert just rang and rang until it rang out; no-one answered it until office hours on Monday. As the house was neither secure nor structurally safe, we had to arrange for emergency remedial work to be carried out on the Sunday. They paid for the temporary repairs and rebuilding work but rejected our claim for uninsured losses amounting to less than £100 for cattery fees whilst the house was uninhabitable. Overall assessment: they were cheap, not particularly good and I wouldn't recommend them.
