My experience with policy expert has been appalling. Customer service is less than useless and emergency cover is laughable. I would recommend you avoid this company at all costs1

Policy Expert policy is to not pay out on claims, Trinity Claims previously going by Trinity M Ltd who deal with claims are a nightmare and would advise anyone thinking of taking Home Insurance out with Policy Expert don't do it, its cheap for a reason problems start if you make a claim. After 19 Months of Trinity messing us around we have been left to cover the cost ourselves, the surveyor's they send out will quote cheap, and does not have a clue. Legal cover is also free for a reason they use a No Win No Fee who have no idea concerning property law as deal in car accidents etc. Did not wait for policy renewal, cancelled and went to another insurer, tried to say contractors who have never been round were not able to carry out work as outbuilding no longer conformed to building regulations. husband is a builder by trade over 40 years and deals with building regulations on daily basis and built it, anything to get out of paying the full cost of repair.0

All products, not just insurance, are cheap for a reason... very occasionally that reason is the company has made a mistake but more often its because they are using cheaper materials, employing child labour in Bangladesh, its last seasons collection. Some of these you may be comfortable with and some may be an issue for you.
With insurance there is a less places to cut cost from and therefore quality of cover or service has to be sacrificed. When consumers will switch insurers to save £1 a year it will continue to be a race to the bottom.0 -
CaptainWales said:I have been given a building and content home insurance with Policy Expert (Policy Expert Home Select) which is far cheaper than anybody else I have found and they include "extras" as standard e.g home assist, trace and access up to £5k etc.
Has anybody else used them before? Good or bad experiences? Seems a bit too good to be true.In our neighbourhood same happened few
years ago and their damage was covered from other insurance company.I believe this company needs to expose for bad business practice. They need to get out of business so people not get caught with cheaper premium and all those offers initially and then end up paying for the house more for repair than they pay premium in their entire life time. One one sentence

I guess this is just a scam company where entire objective it to collect premium and pay salary to staff and dividends to themselves.
Given they aren't an insurance company the setup is a little more complex but dividends is paid to the shareholders not "themselves"chandelyt said:

NEVER BUY POLICY EXPERT0 -
Oh my god, what a joke of a company and this was before my policy had even started. I wanted to change my car insurance date by one day, which was due to start in 3 weeks time, they said it will be £30, so I said please cancel my policy which hadn't started and only took it out the night before, they put the phone down one me first time and then said yes it will be £30. I said i would pay £60 more and be with someone else then have this bad service, imagine the service I would get if I had to make a claim. Do not go with them!!0

I have been so surprised as to what excellent reviews this company received so it can’t be from people who have tried to claim from them.
I would say not to touch them with a barge pole as it’s impossible to get a claim through and they never allow you to speak to your claim handler. It was and still is the most frustrating and stressful experience I have ever had.
it’s cheap for a reason so please don’t go near this company if you want a response when you need to claim.0 -

In fairness to them, with most insurers you will speak to a team not to an individual claim handler. We didn't have individual phone numbers so any calls went to the hunter even if you were available.0 -
I enquired to Policy Expert about making a claim during the year under my house policy, but did not go on to make a claim.
Despite this, my renewal shot up by 63% because of this enquiry. BEWARE - do not contact this company unless you need to make a claim, in which case your premium will jump up which it will if you simply enquire about making a claim.
Not good practice -fortunately there are many other insurers who I can turn to.

That is often notifiable. Notice that the questions when getting a quote don't always say "have you had a claim?", they say something like "have you had a loss or incident?".0
