How annoying your shopping didn't come, good news on vouchers though.

It is scary how much credit is accessible. OH and I recently added up the available credit limits on our open accounts, between us it was £68K  we've closed a couple of them now, but could still access £50k if we wanted to!

That is how the banks and credit card companies suck you in. People feel they should accept as obviously the banks think they can afford it and then are stuck with the debt and consequently years of repaying it. A life time servitude of debt and nice earner for the bank once the 0% deals dry up.

    To multi quote:

On each post you want to quote, click on the pink and orange speech bubbles button next to the quote button. On the last post that you want to quote, just click the quote button (not the speech bubbles) and that will open up a new message window for you with all the quotes in it.

    Hope that makes sense.

Thanks all. MSE things this week:
    • Well I have reduced the CC limit on one of my CC's that I've paid off. I don't want to get rid of it altogether until we have a fully funded emergency fund of 3-6 months. This particularly CC has given us £ transfer deals at 1.9% in the past - I have reduced the available credit by £3.8K.. I'm hoping that when my credit report updates mid October - it will show the £11K I have paid off since July. So far it hasn't!!! which is weirdly frustrating
    • I wanted to set the minimum payment for one of my cards at a fixed amount - but didn't manage to get it sorted as I didn't know my pass code and entered it wrong too many times. I now need to go into the bank with photo id to sort it out which is frustrating.
    • We have jointly cancelled the smaller life insurance / critical illness cover though 'saving' £44.71pcm - and I've upped my mortgage over payment by £24 initially but will put the other £20 toward CC repayments. Even just the £24 extra a month is due to reduce my mortgage free date by 1 month.
    • I was going to do a bank switching service to get £180ish but they wanted to automatically switch our salary pay in which I was unhappy with so withdrew from the process right at the end of the application.
    • OH has submitted his overtime claim so we are hoping we get paid that this month.
    • For some reason - my MrA bill was £5 less today than it was due to be yesterday - and on top of that I sent back a couple of substitutes saving another £3. I bought some macaroni for 61p instead for tea.

For self-care - used flexi to leave an hour early so I could have some time to chillax

  • Frustrating isn't it when your credit file takes so long to update, you want it to reflect your shiny new balances ASAP!

Well done on allocating the saved funds from the insurance straight away :D x

PS I also have the same packaged bank account as you I believe, considering the travel insurance would cover me, OH, and the two kids on a holiday, even without the phone insurance and breakdown cover it's a no brainer to me :)

The travel insurance thing is the reason we keep our joint account with the Nationwide at the moment. As long term customers we get it included even on our no-fee account, although each year it heads for renewal I find myself wondering if this is the year they will withdraw that! (Not this year though - just had the renewal docs through again!)

We used to LOVE a little "cancel something or make a saving and transfer the saved cash to the mortgage" when we were paying off too - and yes, SO satisfying to see the impact it will have going forwards isn't it!

Got to ask though - what are you allocating the odd 71p saved on that insurance towards?! ;):rotfl:

Very MSE with your changes and it's nice to see one month knocked off the mortgage term, that's wonderful and shows you are moving in the right direction.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.

'Stuff I forgot to budget for' ;) Someone gave me a free almost unused jar of coffee 200g when mine ran out yesterday. I allocated the money saved to my lunch :rotfl: and bought a hot meal.. I decided to treat myself as I had a meeting about my job evaluation. My boss agreed to all my changes so she's resubmitting it to see if the grade goes up. If it does - I could get around £1.2K a year in increments for a few years.

Always good to inspire and be inspired. All your posts made me smile this morning as I procrastinate about making myself go and earn my living...

Hi SSDD23 - I did try to include you in the multi-quote twice but it didn't work - so thought I would reply separately. Yes my CC balances haven't updated on the report for months which is very frustrating...

Reassuring about the packaged bank account. They are waiting for us to send Ts and cs back or something before confirming our account. Will look at that tonight. DH made my tea last night - the leftovers should do a few more meals. DH and I actually made it to a friend's house last night. We had a good time chatting so that was good.

DD has gone to school on her bike - but has a sore throat. Hope she makes it in and home okay and goes in tomorrow too. Ideally don't want her missing anymore school. DS has applied for a job and is looking for others to apply for too. Taking my lunch in again today. Get paid Tuesday, trying to be disciplined to use what we already have until then. Will let you know how I get on...

    Have a good day all
