That glass desktop is lovely. It's nice to read about your plans for your home - it's is energising and enthusing you which is great.
hopefully the paperwork will all be completed soon and ex OH will remember to move out as planned!7 -
The upcycling projects sound great and it will be nice for you to get the house how you like it once the Ex has moved out.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Thanks Blackcats, MF and ES
Yeah - I will have fun with my upcycling. I'm really happy with the glass top. It's much more practical for me as it's less likely to be damaged by anything I do on top of it!
Ex didn't get anything out the loft yesterday so that's still to do. Glad BIL is coming at the weekend as he's a grafter and will keep things moving. Ex took the dog to MIL's today as part of getting her used to being there and took her for a long walk. Nephew moved out today - mostly - but still has some stuff left to take. Cutting it fine.
I'm whacked - probably driven about 120 miles running around 3 different places for FB stuff today. Happy with what I got though. Now need to work out how to put my new desk together. Planning to get DD to help next weekend. She's training to be an Engineer so should come naturally to her... I'm hoping the lady I bought it off put the instruction leaflet in - she showed it to me. But if it's in the car it's currently buried under a quilt and the glass desk top. Planning to ask Ex to help me get it safely out the car tomorrow - and then will put on top of the dining table for now.
My batch cooking turned out well. I need to cook mashed potato tomorrow and then put that on top of at least one pyrex dish to make cottage pie. I've already portion controlled some of the food and frozen it. I had garlic chicken and veg that I defrosted from the freezer for lunch - with leftover mash - so that gave me some variety. For tea I had veggie pasta topped with cheese.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

I have just done the 'pre-call' form for getting my will done. It's always harder to start than to do. Hopefully that can then get done before the divorce goes through.
Next I need to contact utility companies and make sure I get a 'final bill' at house handover point. My name is on the bill for elec, gas and water - so it's only the broadband that probably doesn't have my name on it. It would suit me to break that contract if possible - as you can get it cheaper now. I also need to apply for single person's council tax credit or at least try.
The property solicitor at my divorce practice is due to call me at some point today with an updated quote.
I still have one expression of wish form left to do but Ex is getting half of that pension on divorce so it feels slightly premature to do now and cut him out of getting stuff. I sorted the other two a few weeks ago. I need to get the form ready. It's a trustee thing so I think they'd flex for the fact I was getting divorced anyway.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Your whizzing along with stuff there SH - it's great to read! Food sounds lovely too, and that glass top is fabulous!
Definitely sounds like a good idea having BIL around to give you some backup with making sure things happen at the weekend. Do you suspect that Ex will make sure that he leaves some stuff there until the actual day? It sounds to me as though he might so possibly wise to be prepared. He can of course, just as long as he - and all his stuff - are gone in a timely fashion on completion day.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

DD doesn't earn under the threshold to be classed as an apprentice. So I suppose the next question is whether she is a visitor or lives here given that some weeks she's away Sunday to Friday (like this one). I need to investigate further.
I've rung the water - and even though my name is on the account and I am paying the bill - they need to speak to him as he is the main account holder. Sexist or what!! The good news is that my bill should drop to more like £45 a month from £64. I am metered. I will need to ring up with a meter reading on the day.
I've rung gas and elec and confirmed that I am now with Shell. They updated my payment details. I just need to ring up with a meter reading on the day.
So just broadband left to sort on a utility front.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Sexist doesn't even come close. I'm prepared to bet that if you cancelled the DD it wouldn't be your ex they chased. It really is time they changed some of this stuff. These discussions have been going on for so many years now. The good news is that they no longer require us to have a male guarantor for our mortgages, that's just over 30 years now. Can you tell it is something that makes me grind my teeth. We are also no longer taxed as a couple (unless you get child benefit & earn too much). With my divorce when my accountant filed my self assessment HMRC sent my ex a bill for £1000 because HE earned too much. That was a couple of months of maintenance down the tubes. That was 1989.At this rate we are never going to get equal rights. My mother about 10 yers ago in her late 80s said if she was starting out now she would never get married unless she was going to have children!6
