Well done on your bargains. Enjoy your day off and hope counselling goes well. x"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee3

savingholmes said:Thanks MF and HM. Left work early today and went to an outlet mall with DD. I picked up 2 dresses in the sale plus some leggings for under £45. DD picked 3 pairs of N*ke trainers for £48. I gave her £37.50 towards them as part of last clothing allowance. We were only there an hour. Picked up a couple of nail varnishes for me too. Good value trip.
Booked tomorrow off as have counseling and feeling tired anyway. Hope the weather improves at the weekend.

Yesterday took it really easy. Was a good day overall. Been decluttering the main bedroom today. Always feels never-ending. Also done one load of washing and packed the dishwasher. DS has been away for a few nights which has made the house a lot more peaceful. Just been updating my spreadsheets. Going to see what money I have just before payday to see if I can make any extra payments.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Well I had some time to myself today while the rest of the family went off visiting relatives. Enjoyed some peace. Listened to an audio book and took pooch for a walk to a local park at one point. Did the dishwasher. Made myself a roast dinner - left enough for DD and another meal for me tomorrow.
Both kids have blagged some food from relatives. We are teaching DD to budget ahead of moving out - so we've been giving her £25 per week recently for food. (We're still paying toiletries, cleaning products etc...) I walked to the local C00p and bought some fruit and veg. Trying to cut down on grocery spend in general... Using up what's in the freezer. I had some defrosted mackerel for tea with salad but it was a big mushy...
DD is starting to get antsy about results day Tuesday. Hope it goes well for her. DD is going to stay with one of my sisters from Wednesday which will be good for all of us. DS did similar this week. DD is due to be away during the week most of September and October on a training course and the new company are due to pay her accommodation. It is unclear what they are doing about food... DS starts his new job tomorrow but his company laptop hasn't arrived yet so that could be interesting!!Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Good idea re. the food budgeting for DD savingholmes. My DD was very inventive when she was living away from home and would buy a huge takeout, then save half for the next day. And training/working away with work was always a bonus - foodwise. Plus there was many a hotel shampoo snaffled into her suitcase.
I need to have a go at using up the freezer and doing some food planning. We haven't been wasteful, but it seems like the cupboards are bursting a bit. It will be much easierr when we are all back to normal (if we ever are), but it was much simpler meal planning when it was just me and DH.
Hopefully DS's laptop will turn up tomorrow, just in time"Think of many things, do one"

Glad you had some time to yourself.
Good luck to DD for her results and hope that DS's first day went well and the laptop turned up."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee3 -
DS's new job went okay today. He's also managed to get a graduate account with a zero percent overdraft facility so will repay the money he owes us. I'm going to give £240 of what he repays straight to DD for driving lessons and then that's me sorted. The other £30 will go to a CC repayment probably. He borrowed more this morning before his new account details arrived! I also gifted him some money towards food. He's been and bought lots of bargains at Morries.
DD is going to be laughing when she first starts her apprenticeship - they are putting her up in a hotel and paying her breakfast and evening meal. She will just need to sort lunches. I suggested she have fruit for lunch as two big meals a day will be plenty. It should mean she hardly has to spend anything when she first starts though and should be able to save it.
I went into work today and caught up with some work colleagues I'd not seen for a long time so that was really nice. Payday Friday... edging closer.

Good news @savingholmes
Its not entirely improper for DD to take some fruit with her hotel breakfast, and then slip it into her bag for lunch. I wouldn't suggest she necessarily ask permission, but in the very unlikely event of anyone caring enough to say anything she can always go "my eyes were bigger than my appetite and I didn't want to waste it". fruit and croissants are a lot easier to do that with than bacon sandwichesI think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

Fruit, cup soups and crackers are good for lunches. If DD is in the routine of having a proper lunch / sandwich the fruit will be a shock and she could end up going to vending machines or the shop.
DS will do well in his new role and when he starts getting paid budgeting should be easier.
I'm pleased you had alone time, payday will soon be here.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.4
