Thanks guys. Well I worked another short day. Lots of hours to catch up over the weekend. I did spend about 3 hours off and on painting the fence. I also took some time to sit outside with DH and DS in the garden. DD spent time with friends and it went well. DS got a high 2.1. We celebrated with a takeout from the Hut as our favourite Chinese is still closed. The US work guy has asked for his paypal details so he can pay him so trust that all works out. He is due to get paid by the other 20 hours a week company tomorrow -so we will get our first board payment. Exciting for him and us LOL..Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Thanks guys. Well DS got paid for both lots of freelance work so he is now in a position to pay board. He paid us £400 towards food, lodging and bills. He swapped the other £40 for instead doing a deep clean on the kitchen each week. Double win. He says he will also take responsibility for his uni accommodation bill if it comes. So financially feel I can breathe again a little as we'd pre-paid some of his uni money to him and then he came home anyway. He's earned £6.6K gross approx during lockdown!!! Phenomenal! Life changing and enhancing.
He's now going to start clearing his student overdrafts, credit card and loans and start saving to go back abroad. He is seeking to develop a location independent business. The company paying him £20 p/h have offered him another 5 hours per week work. They keep getting him to write little bids / strategies on how they can improve - and then offering him the work. They are also linking to him on professional websites - and have given him a posh title LOL. His upbringing and education are all paying off! He did spend £1K on a course with the guy that he earned the $5K from - which worried me but it turned out to be fabulous return on investment. He can also charge that against his tax. He is waiting to hear if he got the bonus or not. So proud of him and excited for him. Last night DS and I went out for a 1.8 mile walk with the dog to celebrate and discuss his next plans.
I've offered to pay him £20 to write me a strategy to earn money from writing and include links as if he can do it - I should be able to as well. He has been so fearless!! This weekend I need to catch up on my day job - but it is raining off and on now so that should make it easier. I caught up on some of my lost sleep last night too so I am feeling better today. I also feel a major reduction in financial pressure - it's not just about board - it's the fact he can now pay his own way in the world. Now he's been successful with 2 very different clients we have shared faith in his path ahead.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

There is something very satisfying about your children becoming financially independent so you should give yourself a pat on the back that your DS has managed to work and save so much over lockdown and his career seems to be taking off. I'm not surprised you feel under a lot less pressure, you've had a lot of uncertainty and now DS is standing on his own feet you can focus on the remaining 3 of you. How fabulous is it DS is also dealing with the outstanding Uni accommodation fees, you get the breathing space and conclusion to that now too.
Go find something to put in the fridge to cool and celebrate later, hopefully you've some juice / squash or something equally as tasty.
It's the start of your new life and you can continue to go from strength to strength 🍾Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.4 -
So pleased to hear that things are taking off for DS, and the knock on effect for you is fabulous!
