I cannot imagine any bed not going up the stairs, they are often bolted together, is dismantling them an option.
You would certainly expect to pay fee, plus delivery and collection if you no longer want the bed.

This was my thoughts when the delivery guys said it wouldn’t fit (I had paid for delivery and install) but when I asked them about it they said it was a one part thing.

Their cancellation policy says that I can cancel up to 14 working days after delivery. I may have to pay a collection charge but it’s all still in its original packaging so I should be ok.

Thats for DFS direct for online purchases, NOT instore purchases, so you need to keep looking (can you link where you got the above?)

How much effort did they make? Have you spent a little time trying to get them up the stairs?

“Consumer Contract regulations only apply to your order if the goods have not been custom made to your specification or if you have not examined the product in one of our showrooms. If the Consumer Contract Regulations do apply you can cancel your furniture by notifying us, in writing, before delivery or within 14 working days beginning with the day after the date of delivery.”

It was not custom made, you can select the exact one I bought online. Also, I did not examine the product in the showroom as it is an online only purchase (or so I’m told by the store). I went into store to purchase it because I wanted to pay my deposit in two halves from different cards and it was easier doing it that way.

I can’t post a link because I’m new to the forum.

Consumer contract regulations don't cover your scenario though,

    Yes I bought in store
In store, change of mind purchase, did they not have the item in the shop?
  • They did try every which way to get those two parts up the stairs but couldn’t get it past the banister. I have no issue with the delivery guys.

In store, change of mind purchase, you have no rights

I don’t think it’s a change of mind purchase. It’s the fact I wasn’t provided dimensions of the boxes being delivered. I made sure the bed could fit (which it can) it’s just those two parts of it.

No they didn’t have them in the shop or anywhere. Had to basically buy it online but go through all the finance stuff in store.

Can the banister be removed/taken apart?

If you couldn't see the goods anywhere then fingers crossed you should be able to get a refund
