Just had an email, he has opened a paypal case saying item not as described. Any advice on this please or is it a lost cause. I have never had a paypal case before, only ebay ones. My description of the item was 3 words long, and utterly factual.

This is going to be a good one for you, accept the return and as it's PayPal the buyer has to return the item at their own cost, you do not have to pay for a label.

I suspect buyer has lost their buyer guarantee for opening too many returns, hence having to go to PayPal.

Cheers for the fast reply. So should I just escalate to paypal then accept a return (presuming that is an option on there) or is it worth trying to fight first?
(Options I seem to have at the moment are a) message buyer. b) Escalate to PayPal c) Make an offer

Just curious, would Paypal also restrict the buyer for opening an excessive number of cases?

    You would hope so.

I haven't seen that mentioned at all , I am aware that buyers get restricted on eBay though.

Personally I would fight a case on Paypal. Ask the buyer for evidence/photos etc and then respond. If they don't respond, add all of your evidence and on the escalation day, ring Paypal and ask them to review it. The worse case will be it goes in the buyer's favour but as said above, they will have to pay to return the item via an online trackable means.

    *An update*
So paypal told the buyer to return, add their tracking number, and they would refund.
The buyer returned via special delivery but never put his tracking number into paypal, so paypal have closed the case, and given me the money back.
Just got an email from the buyer asking for his postage costs back for sending it back, no mention of the cost of the item, most strange ...
So, what to do, I am not out to rip anyone off, but feel that actions have consequences. My main thought is to refund what the buyer paid for the returned item, minus my postage and packing costs, so buyer will be down about £16 if you include what he paid to return it. .
What are other peoples thoughts please?
    a) Do as I said above
b)Refund the buyer everything they paid
c)Refund the buyer everything they paid and their return costs
d)Ignore the buyer and refund him nothing.
    e) send the item back to the buyer

Edit to add: Oh, and he has just left me a neg :)

I would be refunding what they paid (assuming you did sent what you listed)
Since they left a neg, I may just refund the item cost and then the postage when they cried. ;)

Option D for me. The buyer cannot open another Paypal case, he has left a neg. What else can he do?

Did you check if he actually IS a chartered accountant? Push back some. If he is registered, drop a line to his professional body. If he ISNT registered, tell the professional body that someone is impersonating one of its members.
