It's a checkout assistant, do you really think they give a crap about your happiness?
Some things are just not worth a second thought, this is high up on that list.

I am under no illusion they couldn't care less about how much the price of the broccoli is scanning at. My point was that Tesco will if you ask them say "Of course in this instance our staff should go above and beyond to ensure the customer is number 1 e.t.c." but it's not a consumer right that a staff member has to check...

Did you really go back to the same person who served you who - I assume - was busy on the till serving other customers?

What I do if I believe I've been mis-charged is go back to the item and check the shelf label very carefully to ensure I've not made a mistake.
Then I go to Customer Services (the clue is in the name) and tell them I've been over-charged.
At this point they go off to check the item and I go with them.
When we've agreed that I have indeed been over-charged, they refund me - at which point I ask for double the difference. It seems that they now have to check that they can do this.

What I suspect was said here:

was that the person on the till couldn't do anything about the overcharging.
And they probably referred you to Customer Services.

    Hi,

Yes it was the same person, she was not working on a till and was instead a member of floor staff who temporarily was overseeing the self service checkouts, when I returned the second time she was going back to her role on the floor.

Why didn't you go to Customer Services?

When that has happened to us the till operator has called a supervisor to check the price.

On one occasion the ticket for a special offer hadn't been removed when it finished the day before, so she gave us the items at the offer price

On another occasion the till did not show the reduced price on the shelf. The supervisor checked it through another till which gave the correct reduced price. It turned out that one till hadn't been updated.

If the offer is a reduced price for buying two then the full amount is charged at first then the difference is deducted at the bottom of the receipt before the final charge.

I already messed about on this for 15 minutes and in the end I didn't buy the item.

I don't if it happens in other supermarkets, but I have noticed in Tesco several times that if they have an offer on one size of product it often makes the smaller size more expensive. Yesterday I bought a 200gm jar of branded coffee which was on offer and 35p cheaper than the 150 gm refill pouch of the same brand.

You needed have messed about at all if you'd gone straight to Customer Services - and you'd have got double the difference for being over-charged.

Very common in all the places I shop.
And if you're still not sure, check the price per 100gms/100ml/kilo/litre or whatever.

Not sure this is unusual, happens all the time with offers...

I'm not sure why I "needed to have messed about" but ok.

    Those in glass houses....
I subsequently left both items back.

We all knew what you meant, and you know exactly what Pollycat meant.

    But ok.
