That's so good to hear!Onebrokelady said:I was up until 2am with loads of money saving ideas going round in my head, I spent a couple of hours reading posts on the Old time money saving boards and now feel like it's a challenge I can do rather than something that is beyond my controlI think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. Search the Internet for 'Vampire Appliances' - it appears they cost us a lot so you are doing exactly the right thing.Onebrokelady said:Last night I decided to turn everything off that doesn't get used very often or overnight. So the tv, washing machine, microwave and kettle were all switched off. I normally leave them all plugged in that's such a waste when they aren't being used and it takes seconds to plug an appliance in to use it. I use my microwave very rarely but it's plugged in all the time 🙀.
Sorry to your DD but it made me laugh!Onebrokelady said:Oh dear it was slightly windier than I thought, I just went out to fetch the washing in and the whirly gig pole had snapped so the washing was dragging on the ground, luckily the top of it got caught on the shed and the ground is dry so my washing is ok😀 I did laugh however on finding a pair of DDs knickers hanging in a nearby tree 😂😂I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. I've just read an article about 'vampire appliances' (in the 'Guardian', I think) & it was quite eye-opening, as @Cherryfudge says. I'm going to watch my use of phone & laptop chargers as I know I do often plug them in then forget about them, particularly my phone, until I need to use it. So you're ahead of the curve there, @Onebrokelady, with your decision to unplug everything.

They don't all use the same as one another either. I used to have one in the bedroom that used as much on standby as it did when turned on. I know it sounds weird but you could hear it using the electricity too.

I too have been guilty of leaving my phone and iPad charging or not switching the charger off when I've unplugged my phone . I really go into turning them off because they get quite warm and I was worried about a fire risk. The only problem I have at the moment is DD has lots of electrical things plugged in all the time along with her charger which she never unplugs so that's costing me money. It's plugged into an extension lead under her bed and she can't get to the socket without moving her bed so that's why she leaves it on but I think I need to have a word. When she moves out my electric bill will drop through the floor 😀foxgloves said:I've just read an article about 'vampire appliances' (in the 'Guardian', I think) & it was quite eye-opening, as @Cherryfudge says. So I finally managed to put a meter reading on the EDF website this morning and my reading for electric was slightly more than they had estimated in January but my gas was slightly less. I am actually terrible at doing meter readings because it's always such a faff but it was quite straight forward. I will be doing them regularly now and was thinking monthly, will that be too much ? Weirdly they say they haven't had a reading since January 21 but a man knocked on my door a few months ago to tell me he was reading my meters 🤷♀️ I don't know what happened to that reading or if he was just snooping around to see if anyone was at home 🙀he had an orange lanyard on but I didn't see his id up close,my meters are outside so I don't bother to check id if they're not coming in the house
The website also said my DD doesn't need to change but I'm presuming this is before the new prices kick in.Original Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,736 Owed = £10,8941 -
Just got my PCR results back and they were negative again so I'm taking that as I'm all clear and either had a different nasty virus or it's just gone out of my system, either way I am technically free to mingle 🎉🎉🎉,in reality I won't be mixing with anyone until Monday when I will hopefully feel well enough to go back to work.
I am supposed to be at work tomorrow but I'm still not feeling too good so said I would see how I go over the weekend. I still have a horrible headache and feel sick. Last night I when I went to bed I was hot and shivery again and had such painful joints I didn't know what to do with myself. I'm aching today and my arms and legs feel like lead weights but that could be Fibromyalgia related 🤷♀️
I have had a very relaxed day today with nothing much to do thank god. Of course I've sorted the 🐓🐓and I also refilled the bird feeders but apart from that there was nothing housewise that needed doing. I'm a bit sad though because it would have been a good day to get out and do some bits in the garden today but I don't feel up to it so that will have to wait until I feel better. I did do a big patio clean and tidy a few days before I got ill so at least the patio is ready and waiting for the warm weather to arrive 🤞🤞Original Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,736 Owed = £10,8941
