My journey to a debt free life

Sorry that you may lose your DDs rent money and I daresay you will miss her too. Hospitals in the south west are scattered so I guess it is not surprising that some of the rotations will be difficult to get to. milann said:I think that’s the best outlook - you definitely need a life as well as paying the debts. Yes they are important to get paid off but living is also important. It would be so easy to have blow outs and end up in worse debt if you don’t allow as much wriggle room for living as you can.You will miss your dd when she moves away. It’s a good job you didn’t commit to using her money for debt repayments but kept to one side for houses things. Hope she gets herself sorted. Does she have to go where they say or can she appeal to get somewhere easier to get to.Original Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,736 Owed = £10,8942

The thing with the rotation is they knew when they took her on that she doesn't drive yet and she is going to learn but at the moment trying to get driving lessons is really hard or nigh on impossible, even if she had started learning to drive she still wouldn't be driving now. She pointed this out to them at her interview and they told her they would place her in the local hospital until she had learned to drive, she doesn't mind doing a community hospital placement at the other hospital she actually chose so they could put her there, everyone on her team drives and some even live closer to the town she can't get to so it wouldn't be a problem for one them to go there instead
My house needs lots of work doing but the immediate thing is floors especially in the kitchen which has a hole in it. The bathroom needs tiling and a radiator replacing . I need a new front door handle. The seal on the back door needs replacing. The biggest job that I'm not sure about is that the steps that lead up to the front door have come away from the house so there is a gap ( this is where the front door handle ended up after it fell off ) I'm hoping it might be covered by insurance but I'm not sure, its actually pulled a brick out of the front of the house under the doorstep so if you look down on the inside you can see daylight though the hall floorOriginal Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,736 Owed = £10,8944 -
There’s always something to put a spanner in the works, just when you think you’ve got things sorted 😩 I hope your DD gets to stay with you 🤞 I can’t see my DD ever moving out, she’s 34 and no signs whatsoever. She’s no trouble though and she pays board. Handy to have her around when Mr SA has a fall too.
It will be worth finding out if insurance will cover the steps.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)3 -

I agree it's all about keeping a balance, OBL. Those floors sound like they need doing & some of the smaller jobs might not cost as much as you think. Our awful hall wall which was recently chopped right back to the old 1930s bricks & repaired by a plasterer cost £140. I have dreaded getting a quote for that work for over 10 years because it just looked so, so awful that I was convinced it would really cost us. Re the step pulling away.... again, worth getting a no obligation quote just to see what general ball park figure you're going to be looking at. We have booked builders to remove & replace lots of damaged bricks underneath our damp proof course all along 2 sides of the house. It has to be done painstakingly one brick at a time but even that has come in at considerably less than £2k & it's a big job. If your step needs a new brick & a bit of mortaring it might not be nearly as expensive as we tend to fear these things will be.
Over-paying the mortgage could still be viable in time.... it's hard to plan right now, & your daughter may be lucky & get that different placement.

All change again in OBL land. DDs placement has been changed so she is now staying in the hospital for the next 9 months, she has been given a rotation in the ED and our Acute Medical Unit, she is happy with this 😊 and relieved that she doesn't have to move out yet. I am very relieved too ,it would have been a complete nightmare to go where they had put her. I was thinking about the practicalities of her finding a room to rent on a short tenancy, her not knowing anyone there and not being able to go out if we are still restricted, possibly not being able to visit either, thank the gods I don't have to worry about it now and hopefully she will be able to get some driving lessons in the not too distant future
Work today was a lovely day. I was supposed to be in clinics but we only had three face to face patients so I went and worked on the ward instead. I spent most of the day 1-1 with a patient then had just enough time to do some of my daily jobs before it was time to go home
I picked up some shopping on the way home, which included some grapes, apples and oranges for my healthy eating, I was naughty and bought a bar of fruit and nut chocolate which I ate this evening and surprisingly although I ate the lot I've realised I didn't actually enjoy it and now I'm hoping I've gone off it, it's a big weakness of mine and I can happily polish off a family size bar over a couple of nights, now I'm craving an orange which is great 😀
When I got home tonight DD had done all her ironing and had offered to do mine tomorrow and had also hoovered everywhere. I was feeling quite energetic so I did my own ironing straight after my tea so I won't have that to do over the weekendOriginal Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,736 Owed = £10,8945 -

I have had a person recommended to me to do the work in the bathroom so once I've had the floors done I will get that priced up. I know we can have workmen in our houses but I am going to wait until March/April to start looking at getting these jobs done, then I just have to get over my dislike of having strange people in my house 🙄 In the meantime I should make the most of the fact that I'm stuck at home and paint everywhere 😀Original Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,736 Owed = £10,8942 -
