My journey to a debt free life

Forgot to mention,I'm also feeling very smug at the moment because all week I have been listening to people at work moaning about how long January is and how they are all running up their overdrafts because they have run out of money
That used to be me but although I got paid on the 23rd of December I didn't touch my wages until I should have got paid on the 27th and I saved for Christmas so didn't have to use a credit card to pay for anything, one of my colleagues has had to dip into her overdraft to pay her credit card bill,I'm soooo happy that that is no longer how I liveOriginal Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,736 Owed = £10,8941 -
It feels good to be managing doesn't it? I was so proud of myself for not being in my overdraft too. XSeptember 2017 Debt = £25330
Starting afresh.

That's a huge bill for the vet (I know they can be like that but it's still big) - so the unexpected rebate is absolutely a silver lining.
And a well-deserved pat on the back for managing December's money so well! I know virtue is supposed to be its own reward but you're a shining example to the rest of us and I think you should be told as much.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Yep it was huge,I was expecting a large bill because of the blood tests,it only cost £ 19 to take the blood but £115 to analyse them:eek: the consultation is £43 and I needed worm and flea treatment too
Thankfully the bloods were all normal so that's a relief,I need to try to set up a budget pot for vets bills though as I can't keep taking money out of the emergency fund, I do normally manage to pay it back though so I suppose as long as I am doing that it should be ok,the sneaky insurance e company should be paying but they won't budgeOriginal Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,736 Owed = £10,8941 -

Hi yep pets are exspensive,I come to the sad conclusion that when me current pets are no longer with me I w9nt Be having anymore, it will make me sad but for me it's the responsible thing to doOriginal Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,736 Owed = £10,8941 -
The rebate came at the right time. It's all the add-on things that mount up. I paid just over £500 for my cat to have her teeth cleaned. It started out at £200 for the cleaning the other £300 was for anaesthetic and blood tests then on top of that there were painkillers and a couple of sachets of special food. Every time she goes for her check up they look at her teeth and I think don't you dare say they need cleaning again (it was less than 2 years ago).
It is a good feeling indeed when everyone is moaning about being skint and you've done well because of being careful. Although in my case it's more because I haven't left the house since 13 December :rotfl:I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0 -
Cat teeth cleaning is notoriously pricey. I remember with a past cat we had - a beautiful big grey boy - he needed his teeth cleaning & the vet gave me a quote, & when I went to collect him & pay the bill, it had gone up by another £20 because he was a big cat & the procedure 'needed more anaesthetic than we priced in'. He wasn't even grateful! I could hear him from the waiting room swearing, spitting & yowling at the vet nurse trying to put him in his carry box.
OBL - I know what you mean about being so very glad to have left that horrible January credit card bill/overdraft situation behind. I used to dread it, but during the Spendy Years (well, I've said quite enough in my own diary about how much money I frittered away))I still always repeated the November/December Christmas spending behaviour, even though I knew full well that as sure as night follows day, I would be back in that grim financial position in January.......which following my trips to town & local garden centres plus the Swedish Emporium for the sales......would be even worse by the end of February! It honestly did take the full LBM to break this cycle. The first time I paid off all December's credit card spending IN FULL by the end of December felt like such a breakthrough/ I wanted to shout it from the rooftops, but didn't go round broadcasting it, as it would have felt like I was being a right smuggins.
We can celebrate these things on here though, can't we, as most of us have been in a similar position.
Back in those days, I'd be getting my January pay next Monday. I would have been absolutely dreading my cards being stopped at the tills every time I used them for at least two weeks, made worse by the fact that I fell into the December pay-trap every single year without fail. Oh my days......why DID I choose to live like that for so long?!

Yes the rebate was a lovely surprise and very timely, funny you should mention teeth, the vet said our dogs need cleaning,it's only her canine ones all the others are really good, so I bought a tooth cleaning kit while I was there, I'm not sure how successful this will end up being though, there is a leaflet inside which tells you how to get your dog used to having their teeth cleaned so I'm going to follow that, she likes the tooth paste so that's one bonus :rotfl:Original Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,736 Owed = £10,8941
