Anybody else? What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -

Can I ask what you all drink when you go out and don’t drink ?
Cola and tea are on my menu !!
Bec*s Blu3, or whateverAF beer that particular bar or restaurant has. Most now have one, which is a huge change from 4 years ago in the UK, but normal for Europe. I don't drink much of it, because alcohol dries out the back of the throat, so the more alcohol you drink, the thirstier you are. AF drinks don't do that. I haven't looked into this but, on reflection, I doubt whethere there is more sugar in soft drinks than booze; it's just that we taste it in the softies, and not in the booze. It's actually the sourness of booze I'm after when I have anything to drink in the evening.
In the early days I couldn't get by without one or two Bec*s Blu3s, now I rarely have one and that's fine. I drink a lot more decaff coffee in the mornings - 2 cafetieres full - and then one or two mugs of fruit tea in the afternoon. That seems to keep my hydration levels about right, so I'm not thirsty at all.
Someone posted a link to a BBC article about whether doing Dry January 'reset' people's relationship with booze and the results seemed pretty inconclusive. I know someone who never went back to drinking after doing it, so it's likely that will happen with quite a lot of people.
I think I'm right in saying that of the sample of 2,800 at the start, only 800 were still AF at the end, those that drank heavily before were the most likely to drop out, and that by March most people had gone back to their previous level of consumption. I think it's interesting that there are 2,000 people out there who didn't make it and no-one's particularly interested in why they caved. I could always pinpoint the reason for the first drink, and then after that it was, 'Sod it, may as well carry on now.' We're a bit 'All or nothing' aren't we? On reflection, from where I'm standing right now, that seems to be a mistaken reason for having the second, third and fourth I always did, and then, even more oddly, for having one the following night.
I battle constantly with my sugar addiction even now, but just because I had a bar of chocolate yesterday I don't say, 'Sod it, I may just as well have one today.' I do try not to, and most of the time I succeed, so I'm puzzled as to why I couldn't do that, or didn't do that, or didn't succeed at doing that with booze.
Most of the research into booze and its effects is paid for by the booze industry. Hardly surprising; but it does make you wonder if the booze industry would publish anything that made it easier to stop using any of its products.

On holiday at present so not going to declare WE or SNC this week as I would like to be a bit more flexible and it's hard to declare early when you don't know what you will be doing each day.
6/20 - thank you Shaggy.0 -
