I can empathise with those who drink from boredom. I've had similar feelings at times. Sometimes, although we have plenty to do, they aren't the things we want to do (especially in our leisure time) because they're work or taxing in some way. So drinking becomes a distraction as it becomes an activity in itself IYSWIM. There's also the HALT triggers for drinking (Hungry, Angry, Lonely and Tired).

Distraction is what helps me most. That can be by simply still spending an evening watching trash tv but telling myself that if I do it with a hot drink then it can be cosy and comforting and has the added benefit of being mse and low calorie!:D:money: That works well for me but I couldn't do it every night and every weekend. It's hard to advise as don't have young children so I can get out and do other things in the evenings but otherwise some sort of indoor hobby might work. There's nothing wrong with going to bed early and reading or flopping on the sofa but perhaps if the days were fuller at weekends then relaxing in the evening wouldn't seem so boring.

I have a holiday planned for June as well cathy. This one next month is an extra. Generally we just take short breaks which leaves plenty of month but not this time. But if I can meet or beat last year's annual target by having 'good' months then I'll be happy.:)

    No drinking here today.

    15/10 AFDs please Shaggy.

Met my January target yesterday which is great as it means I'm on track to meet my annual target too!
What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

Just after I stopped smoking I went through an incredibly stressful time; menopause, OH behaving like a twonk, someone else I should have avoided having too much influence in my life, death of my mother, brothers behaving incredibly badly, I moved out and rented a flat for six months and never once, ever, did I think a cigarette would make life better. Wasn't even remotely tempted. I'd smoked for 30 years and loved it, absolutely loved it, until I didn't any more suddenly.

Had it been booze that I'd given up, I'm not sure I'd have found that so straightforward. I noticed through the six months I was living on my own that I could go without booze for two nights and then the third night I'd think, 'I'll just have one or two' and before I knew it, Every Single Time - pi**ed. Carried on for the whole six months, moved back in, back on the nightly habit.

    22/31 please.

When you think of all the tough things we have to live through is it any wonder we end up drinking too much at some points in our life!? Until the drinking itself becomes THE problem....and it's no longer helping...

...thanks for the thought provoking post...

Things to think about here too....I probably spend too many nights watching TV.....
