Well done, Annie G! :T:T:T
I really hope you find the obstruction quickly, Green Karen. I know Grand Designs has to be structured as a drama so there's always that segment of jeopardy, but I've yet to meet anyone who had a smooth build without any hiccups. I'm sure it'll all be worth it in the end, though.
Shaggy, exactly that, about the smoking. I stopped in 2006 and as Love a Sale found, I'd tried several times before and couldn't stop. Come the day, it just worked. I stopped just as the smoking in pubs ban was about to come into force and it was pretty normal to stop then so it wasn't difficult to avoid temptation. (Standing outside a restaurant in the pouring rain while it's blowing a gale in the middle of a Plymouth summer has never been my idea of fun.)
With the booze thing, that's very different while on the cusp so to speak, because drinking is very socially acceptable, and not drinking can be seen as the anti-social choice - not that that mindset is my problem; it's theirs, obviously.
Just after I stopped smoking I went through an incredibly stressful time; menopause, OH behaving like a twonk, someone else I should have avoided having too much influence in my life, death of my mother, brothers behaving incredibly badly, I moved out and rented a flat for six months and never once, ever, did I think a cigarette would make life better. Wasn't even remotely tempted. I'd smoked for 30 years and loved it, absolutely loved it, until I didn't any more suddenly.
Had it been booze that I'd given up, I'm not sure I'd have found that so straightforward. I noticed through the six months I was living on my own that I could go without booze for two nights and then the third night I'd think, 'I'll just have one or two' and before I knew it, Every Single Time - pi**ed. Carried on for the whole six months, moved back in, back on the nightly habit.

23/25 and 2/5 please Shaggy
Karen: sorry to hear about the build woes. I would not have the patience to manage builders and contractors - been there at work, not keen on coming home to it! I'm sure it will all be worth it when you move in though.
Loveasale: the smoking analogy is an interesting one, you do have to be ready and wanting to make changes, not doing something because you think you ought to.0 -
