Thank you honey bear , the reason why cutting down is not an option for me is I really can not moderate my wine intake when I do drink ,, yet most week days I’m more than happy to be AF and don’t miss it ,,,, until I then start and ,,,,well I’ve already said how it ends,,
I am doing it for me , not for my man , but he he ended up as I do ( and it’s more and more common these days ) I think I’d be disappointed in him and his lack of control!
So I’ve come to my own decision the right and as I see it the best option for me ,,, my family and my man will still love me either way ,, but I do need to change :))

    15/15 and 2SNC please.

Good luck Lovasale and Rosy10. Keep going andkeep posting, it really helps me to post as I can work out some very reasonable excuse as to why I 'had' to open that bottle. For some reason I never think about being less than accurate on here, what would be the point so that helps a lot. Plus reading everyone else's comments often makes me think and reflect on things.
  • Good luck, Lovasale :)

Stress: I do think a drink to calm down is an easy habit to start, but if that isn't an option you find more productive methods. I can say that after over 4 months  of being pretty much AF I don't miss it when I don't drink, but it took me at least 2 or 3 months to get to that stage. For some it might take longer (was it here that someone posted the Raymond Chandler quote about it taking 3 years?), others can be regular drinkers and still take it or leave it. My reaction makes me think that I will never go back to regular weekly drinking, but I'd like the option of having a drink on high days and holidays. We shall see.

Morning all, 20/21 for me today thanks. :)

Quick post as just caught up briefly with all the posts but not chance to comment yet as busy on site at moment (even though there during a heavy blustery snow shower this morning).

Shaggy - in answer to question on house build, don't ask! Seriously, we have a major problem getting water connected to site. Just had a digger there this morning but it's a stab in the dark as to where in the 40 metre length of pipe that's 1 metre deep in the ground, the kink/obstruction is, just hope we don't have to dig the entire length up.
Got wood burner fitters on site today which is one nice thing. Also got the roofer on as a couple of slates fell off. Plumber back to fix leaky toilet, hopefully electrician and joiner finishing second fix today and the ground source heat pump engineers hopefully coming today as well. So it's all go on site today.
Starting to think it will be April before we're in.

That could be the title of our thread!:T

There's something about posting on here that has a gentle accountability. There's no criticism but somehow making the commitment helps hugely. :)

Thanks for the good wishes. I'm coping but it is irritating although it seems like it's just a nasty head cold, nothing more serious. I'm glad in a way that I've got it now as we're away on holiday in 2 weeks.

I'm declaring now that February is going to be a very low AF score for me. One of my aims when cutting down was to drink socially and on holidays but not to excess and not to drink on 'normal' evenings at home just because I could. Looking at next month there are very few 'normal' days.

So I'm going to give January and March my best shot to try and offset the balance.:D

    14/10 AFDs please Shaggy.

I don't think about it, is the answer. As you pointed out, it's been nearly five years since I stopped drinking and the habit now is to not drink, rather than to drink or think about drinking.

I think in the early days of stopping I might have thought about it for helping in stressful situations, but not as much as other people or in the same way.

Thanks for your post. It made me think....

I totally understand what you are saying - as an ex smoker (by decades) the idea that a ciggy would help me in a stressful situation is a mad...I guess it's the same with you and a drink...
What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.
