  • 6/31 for me, please.

I'm extra pleased with this as I found yesterday difficult and wanted a drink pretty much all day. There wasn't even a particular reason for it. Today's better, so I'm glad I hung on in there.

Hope you're all having a good weekend.

Honeybear that's prescient advice as I've started dealing with the first 'so why are you not drinking?' conversations with friends. Ideally I would like to go back to having the odd drink or pint of beer  but I do not want to go back to 2 or 3 (or more) bottles of wine a week or a bottle of wine in one sitting. My body just can't cope with it for one thing, for another I already have a high family risk of breast cancer and my stupidity only goes so far

I was still drinking when I found out the link between breast cancer and alcohol consumption and it scared the living daylights out of me. Have anyone been tested for the BRAC gene? You might just be in a family that's been very randomly unlucky. Either way, it turns out you're quite smart because you can't kid yourself it doesn't mattter, unlike the woman on the Adrian Chiles programme.

Anyone else having difficulty with people pressuring you to drink? After having sepsis earlier this year, and now having food/drink intolerances to a lot of things as a result, I have found alcohol has triggered allergic reactions and now does not agree with me at all.
Lots of people saying 'well have you tried....' (insert alcoholic drink).

I've never known anyone allergic to nuts be asked 'have you tried....(insert another nut type).

Anyone got any other suggested words that work? I'm sure people don't meant to pressure, but i'm a little sick of being offered people's drink to try...

'Do you realise you're bullying me?' tends to end the 'Oh go on, one won't hurt' and 'This one'll be different' conversation starters fairly quickly. You can say it with a smile and mean it as a polite observation, or you can make it an accusation if someone's seriously !!!!ing you off.

If you want to be less confrontational, you could say you're still on drugs for the sepsis problems and you can't drink with them.

Lying's fine. It's your body and you're allowed to be in control of it. Other people can be incredibly bad mannered about booze, thinking for some reason that they're allowed to try to force you to do something you don't want to do. Sometimes a white lie is the only way to make these seriously boring people stop their seriously boring behaviour. You don't have to be polite; it's expected of us but by not accepting that you mean what you say, they've already broken the politeness convention.

    7/31 please, Shaggy.
    Better is good enough.

We've thought up loads of reasons over time from antibiotics to pregnancy!

You could always say that the enforced abstinence because of the sepsis felt good so you're sticking with it to give your body a rest.

What matters is that you're confident and determined. The problem isn't with you, it's with them. They'll give up nagging or maybe join you! :)

Hello... I'm reporting in with 3/21 for October and going for 4 in the SNC this week please.
Only reason I'm not having a glass of wine tonight is because I can't be bothered to walk to the shop and I do t have a car at the moment. Sometimes being lazy has advantages!
Say what you mean.. mean what you say... without being mean.
  • Good morning all

6 please Shaggy and 1 for the SNC!

After many failed attempts at getting back on the dieting bandwagon in the past month, I weighed myself today and have bit the bullet and am getting back to it. Will get off my bottom and out for a walk this morning.

    Hope everyone had good weekends

    Morning!

    1/1 for the weekend
    1/5 for SNC
    7/30 for October

We had a lot to drink on Saturday, which resulted in us both being ill during the course of the night and severely suffering for it yesterday. Complete waste of a day yesterday. Why do we do this to ourselves under the pretence of "celebrating"?

I'm never sick with drink, but I usually stick to pints. In an attempt to cut down on Syns I was drinking Vodka soda water and lime. I think the safer option is just to not drink at all!

Still don't feel right today. No more drink for the rest of this month. In fact, my next planned night out is 8th December so I'm committing right now to stay AF until then.
You can have results or excuses, but not both.
