    hi Nicnak, welcome back

seasonofmist, I've done three months at a go, and shorter breaks too, and whenever I started drinking again I found I didn't really want to drink much, which was great - it was as though I'd gone off it, so for a while my alcohol consumption was very low. It crept up again though and within a few weeks was back at my "normal" worrying level. You may not find the same, but I'd be more concerned about the way it creeps up afterwards than how it is to begin with. Having said that, you may also find that to start with your tolerance for it is lower and smaller amounts of alcohol will go to the head more quickly, probably also a factor to watch for. I hope that helps :) Well done for taking a break from it, by the way - more people should do the same, it's such a sane thing to do.
  • 5/21 for me today please. Despite socialising last night - I stuck with some nice tea :rotfl:

Hi Season of Mist! It depends on how much you were drinking before your period of abstinence, I'd have thought. Good on you for making it to Day 97, by the way. It's not contrary to the spirit of the thread at all - it's for anyone who wants to have a measure of control over their drinking.

On the rare occasions I managed to have any control, it was either because I didn't start drinking until I had some food in front of me, or I drank a glass of water for every glass of wine, interspersing them.

I pretty much let myself drink however much I wanted most of the time and that was a recipe for disaster. I still don't think I could limit myself to two glasses a night, which is what I always wanted to be able to do. (By the end of the second, a third always seemed like an excellent idea!)

There is one golden rule about resuming drinking after a period of abstinence and that is that you go back in at exactly the level you were when you stopped. So, if you were a three glasses of wine kind of person three months ago, you might find you can stick to a glass or two for the first few sessions of drinking, and then it'll be 'back to normal' so to speak. The body does not reset itself, you don't go back to being a novice drinker. It's why I don't drink at all, and I love the freedom being a non-drinker gives me too much to want to jeopardise it.

I've got the willpower of a dog with a bar of chocolate balanced on its nose.

Welcome Back! You're on the list....
What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

hi all think the numbers on the annual challenge are now up to date :) I'm away from tomorrow but am hoping to manage some AFDs - my family of origin are nothing if not trying though so here's hoping I can overcome that factor. Today I am farewelling an old friend who is moving overseas - seeing her for lunch. Looking forward to the lunch and hoping for the best for the trip!

Thank You and have a wonderful time (if not - have a not too trying time!).
