Here's a theory.
You were having a new bathroom. You left the toilet in place so it could be used.
Did the PLUMBER know that?
Could it be, in the process of re plumbing the new bathroom, for a while the toilet pipe was disconnected under the floor. Nobody else knew, used the toilet, flushed it, and the contents were deposited under your floor?
The plumber then saw what had happened, thought "bloody stupid b******s" re connected the pipe but refused to clean up someone elses s**t0 -
If Sherlock Holmes were to investigate, would he conclude "excrementary, my dear Watson?"0

I think they would have noticed the 6L of water that goes with a flush!
lets be honest, the joiner was annoyed that OP had complained about his work, is an unprofessional idiot, and sh@t in the OP's floor boards, knowing that the smell would be hard to remove once the floor was down.0 -
I'm not surprised that the OP is upset and angry - I would have been livid.
I wouldn't have called the police but I would have complained in writing to the "gaffer" and left a factual review of the "site hygiene and cleanliness" standard of the sub contractors he employed.0 -
Surely this is a wind up"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

But I'm guessing not quite as hard-to-remove as idiot workman hoped - as I gather it rots down after a while and becomes totally odour-free (ie humanure for the garden - if one is that way inclined).
But rather unpleasant whilst it does so nevertheless.....:cool:0 -

Sadly not, I fear.0 -

Short term or long term, I challenge anyone who claims its not a big deal and the OP should just drop it to leave me alone in their house for 30 mins with a signed agreement that they consider the placement of excrement to be "not a big deal and nothing to involve the police"...
I doubt many will sign up, as its all funny until it happens to you!0 -
