So it works exactly like Google Photos?ringo_24601 wrote: »I go for a portable external disk + Amazon Drive (Unlimited storage for photos)
Every month or so, I'll push photos from my camera's memory card onto the External HD, then onto the cloud. My phone will automatically upload all photos to Amazon as I take them.
Occasionally I'll clear my wife's iphone phone down and merge it with the external drive + cloud.
Now, through the Amazon Photos app, I can find pretty much any photo anyone in our family has taken. It's pretty amazing. You can even search by terms such as 'beach' or 'theme park' and it will find things.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Why would you go elsewhere? If you sign into Google photos the pics you had stored in Picassa will be there.
Everything moved over seamlessly for me. Uninstalled Picassa from PC, Installed Google photos backup, that was it.#
All pics available by logging in to Google photos online, on my phone and on our tablets.
Very little effort required....:)
When you uninstalled picasa before you installed google photos what happened to your photos that were sitting in picasa? or am i missing something.0 -
Nothing 'sits in ' or is stored in Picassa on your PC - its just a viewer
So if you un-install it, the photos are still in the folders and or drives, wherever they were originally0 -
I tend to have three back up copies just in case!Regards,

As bob says, nothing happened to them. Google photos just took over on the Google servers, which is where the pics are.

Good for them, but I wasn't referring specifically to google...0 -
Cloud storage is all very well, but if it's only in one place, and that place gets flooded/goes on fire etc., then you're stuffed. If the company providing the storage folds, you're also stuffed.
all of the ruputable cloud storage companies with have a similar setup to google and have their servers in more than one location or even country"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0 -
Not exactly, it has some advantages and some disadvantages. So it works exactly like Google Photos?
It has unlimited, uncompressed photo storage. I believe Google compresses / resizes your photos. This storage can also include RAW format files - which can be rather big.
It is also easier to get files out, I find, from Amazon. Google does have a bulk export option but it's fiddly.
Google does allow more video storage though - Amazon limits you to 5gb unless you pay.0 -
