just visit the Google Photos web site, log into you account and drag and drop the files from the PC folder to the Google Photos web page in the browser

You can do that, but there's a limit to how many you can do at once, and it can be slow. The uploader is worth it if you have more than a couple of hundred.

picasa has been replaced by google photos. have you tried logging into your google photos account on pc/laptop/phone to see if your photos are there?

If not there i would get all your photos organised into one folder on pc/laptop. install google backup and sync and point to that folder. you can manually upload photos without the software but it is easier to automate the process.

i have all my photos/videos in a folder called 'memories' on my server. inside that folder is a folder called 'photos' and a folder called 'videos'. they are then each broken down into years.

if you have thousands of photos the initially upload can take a couple of days if you have a slow internet connection and may affect your download speed

note that google no longer support picasa so if you do make the switch to google photos and if you do start organising photos/video you may not be able to access via picasa or go back to using picasa

Might be worth trying another cloud type storage facility but thanks anyway:(

google photos is worth sticking with. did you login to https://photos.google.com/

If you photos aren't there i would just start from square one. organise photos into one folder, uninstall picasa, login to google photos and upload a couple of images. if you like what you see install google back up and sync and point to photos

Why would you go elsewhere? If you sign into Google photos the pics you had stored in Picassa will be there.
Everything moved over seamlessly for me. Uninstalled Picassa from PC, Installed Google photos backup, that was it.#
All pics available by logging in to Google photos online, on my phone and on our tablets.
    Very little effort required....:)

Yes - you're right, tried that rather than the drag and drop direct to the web page
Much better for large number of photos

If you coming from Picassa to Google Photos, one of the features of Picassa you might miss is the 'People' function where it automatically groups all the photos of each specific person.

This function was missing from the European version of Google Photos ( or have they added it yet ? )

If not this procedure here, will add that feature to Google Photos for you - you only need to do it once, you will then have the feature going forwards

  • I go for a portable external disk + Amazon Drive (Unlimited storage for photos)

Every month or so, I'll push photos from my camera's memory card onto the External HD, then onto the cloud. My phone will automatically upload all photos to Amazon as I take them.

Occasionally I'll clear my wife's iphone phone down and merge it with the external drive + cloud.

Now, through the Amazon Photos app, I can find pretty much any photo anyone in our family has taken. It's pretty amazing. You can even search by terms such as 'beach' or 'theme park' and it will find things.
