Thanks very much for replying Value. I'll be really wary from now onwards.
"Things" still aren't back to normal on my laptop but I'm still not sure if it's just a coincidence because, after the help I received. I can't find any trace of it on my system at all.
Before I received help, when I had the frozen orange screen, I tried pressing any keys I could think of and it's possible I have pressed something to cause the subsequent problems which I don't know how to reverse: Can't open any emails the usual way by left clicking: I have to right click and open in a new window before I can read them and:
On my desktop it's the same problem: I can't get into any document or folder on my desktop by left clicking - I have to right click and click again to select "open document/folder" etc. It's frustrating but I hope I'm not unfairly blaming the download Parsec for it.0 -
I know it's locking the stable door after the horse has bolted, but another time before downloading and installing any software, it is best to set a system restore point, so that if things don't go well you can wind your computer back to the date of that restore point.

I have used the inquisit download as that has cropped up a few times with different researchers, but I tend not to download anything outside of that.Just to be on the safe side. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.2 -
Yes, I'm cool with Inquisit, but tend not to permit anything else.

Have you checked your Settings to see if somehow the default instructions for how you open emails etc have become changed? I used to have something similar on occasion when trying to open pdf files. The default had become changed to Save file rather than Open file.

Value said:Sorry @Mum161111 but I didn't do this study. I don't do any which require downloads.Me neither. I honestly can't understand why people put their devices at risk all for the sake of a few pence?'Here's 30p if you download and open this app'. Err, no thanks!2

Perhaps try ticking the open in new window option, log out, login and then change back to open in existing window?

Anyone else noticed some surveys that used to be paid in pounds are now paying the same but in dollars. The readability team ones used to be £3.00 now their $3 for doing the same survey so 60p less2
