Did anyone complete the Assessment part?  All i got was a 503: Service Unavailable error.
Same, they just sent a message saying they are trying to fix it and that people should carry on with the survey on the other page - too late for me!

This one just seems to be looking for reasons not to pay out. Returned it. 7 attention checks, for heaven's sake!

Study Content: Thank you for your interest in our study. In this study, we are interested in your attitudes towards fictional individuals. During the study, you will read some information about fictional individuals and then answer questions about the story and the individuals. Sometimes you will also have to respond to pictures by pressing buttons. The information you get about these fictional individuals may be positive or negative. Some of the negative information may touch on topics you might find particularly unpleasant, such as implied emotional or physical abuse. All of the information is fictional and there are no graphic descriptions of such behaviors. Depending on what condition you are randomly assigned to in this experiment, you may experience any or none of these risks. The study duration is estimated at around 12 minutes.

Requirements for Participation: You will need a desktop or laptop computer with a functioning physical keyboard and mouse to participate. All instructions and tasks in this study will be presented in English. The level of language proficiency required is fluency with everyday conversational terms. Please be sure your language skills in English are sufficient to participate.

Compensation: You will receive compensation in the amount of £1.80 if you complete the study. This compensation will be paid via the Prolific portal after submitting the completion code.

We reserve the right to deny payment or shorten or end the experiment early with a corresponding reduction in payment on the basis of the following criteria:

    • Failure to provide Prolific ID or technical failure leading to loss of data. This is a technical limitation – we cannot identify participants to compensate without their Prolific ID.
    • Missed attention checks. In this experiment, we may ask you questions designed to check whether you are paying attention. For example, a question’s text may instruct you to click a certain option regardless of your opinion or might ask you for a detail about the last question you just answered. This experiment contains 7 attention checks. This is necessary to ensure your dataset was not generated by automatic responding software. Where possible, the experiment will inform you of failed attention checks and shorten or quit the experiment if a failed attention check indicates that all or a portion of the data from your submission will be unused. If the experiment is shortened or stopped early due to failed attention checks, you will be paid proportionately to the amount of the experiment you completed rather than the full amount.
    • Excessive time period needed to complete the study after starting corresponding to a Prolific timeout or visible long breaks during the study. The vast majority of psychological studies are designed with the expectation that participants will complete them in one sitting without long breaks, as the effect of earlier tasks on later tasks is often an important research question. If you do not respond for a period of three minutes or more at any point during the story phase, the Chinese ideograph phase, or any questions about the story that are answered on a simple rating scale (e.g. "how much did you like X", answered by clicking a number from 1 to 7), the experiment will end and you will be paid proportionately to the amount of the experiment you completed rather than the full amount.
    • Evidence of patterns in the data that would render it unusable. Psychological experiments are designed with specific instructions that are crucial to the subject of research. If the response pattern shows that these instructions were not followed (e.g. reaction times notably faster than a plausible lower limit based on prior psychological research, error rates indicative of chance responding, always pressing the same response or alternating predictably between responses when presented with questions of varying content, not responding to a significant proportion of trials), this renders the data unusable to the researcher. In this experiment, data will be deemed unusable if at least 20% of response times in any instance of the task wherein Chinese ideographs are rated are faster than 100ms. This will lead to the experiment ending early. You will be paid proportionately to the amount of the experiment you completed rather than the full amount.

Any reduction in payment due to the above criteria will be handled using the Prolific bonus payment system to provide partial payment. If the study is submitted as approved in such a case and not returned in a timely fashion, the submission will be rejected.

Voluntary Participation and Quitting the Study Early: Your participation in this study is voluntary. You can quit the experiment at any time without any need for justification. If you quit the experiment early, however, you will only receive partial compensation proportionate to your actual progress made in the study. Partial compensation will be paid out via the Prolific bonus payment system.

    Limited capacity

"Limited capacity" means that when I click to start the study, despite having successfully joined it, I get an error message saying it only allows 20 submissions at a time. Why, then, are they allowing at least 34 people to join? I guess I have to wait about 15 minutes for the people already doing it to finish, but Prolific only allows 10 minutes to start a study after joining it? Not sure how that's supposed to work.

With so many of these surveys or studies I find myself asking 'what was the point of that?'

Not from our perspective, we get paid to do it, but from the researcher's.

I'm not complaining, I've earned over £150 in only two months for very minimal effort, just surprised that people or organisations actually pay money for answers to what seems like some pointless questions.

I think a lot of studies are from students, though you would think their supervisor provided some input.

I’ve had a few recently about the Israel hostage situation. Some of the questions are phrased in such a way that you do wonder how much supervision is actually happening.

Excuse me???!!! They want my name and address, contact details, NHS number !!!!!!, and they reckon that's anonymous? I don't bloody think so. Returned and reported.
The description also stated they would reject anyone who doesn't get at least 75% correct responses in the trial, which I'm pretty sure is an invalid rejection reason.

Although it is undoubtedly very badly designed, I think it is clear that the form is asking only for Prolific ID - there is an X beside that one, while all the other checkboxes are empty.
I agree with you about the 75% threshhold, though.

I did that one yesterday and it was fine. It's easy to get 75%+ correct. There was no request for personal info. Been paid already. It was one of those ones where you put two fingers on two keys and respond to the prompts on screen.
