I've tried cap, cat, car, cow, cam, can, can't, clown, count. Even played it back at half speed and nothing is clear.Retired_Saver said:

I was not allowed to go any further in the survey and did not get paid for any of my time. Is this usual? The beep really was not there
maybe my headphones were not compatible.

There is a one second sound check and I can't understand the word. Anyone have this and can help?further yet. Waiting for a reply from the researcher. Might have to return study it if they don't reply, or I will be timed out by Prolific. I thought the same thing that it must be my headphones, so tried listening through the speakers of my laptop and still couldn't hear it. Then thought, maybe something wrong with my hearing! It does say it's a faint beep but I can't hear it at all! Sorry you had same problem. Did you contact the researcher? Maybe it's a problem at their end if both of us experienced it. I don't have any hearing problems as far as I know.1 -
I couldn't get it either. Tried cat cap cab can. Returned it.

I tried all of those words too (even slowed down the speed of the speech to see if it helped, but it didn't). I have returned it and complained to Prolific.1

I received this message from The Researcher and, although I had Returned the Study, I was paid the 78 pence:
" Dear participant, this is totally due to an error on our end, and we will compensate as promised. Very sorry for the frustrating experience."0 -
Just failed to join a study because "This study only allows -1 participant at a time, and is currently full." How does that work? Do they only accept participants from antimatter universes?

That's good. Pleased for you. I haven't received a reply from the researcher and haven't been paid either (returned the study). Has anyone else received a reply or been paid apart from Retired Saver?Retired_Saver said:I received this message from The Researcher and, although I had Returned the Study, I was paid the 78 pence:

I hope you hear soon, Blue_Mermaid. I hoped for a reply but did not expect to be paid so the 78 pence was an unexpected bonus. Since it was "An error at their end" I hope you, and the others, hear soon and also receive payment.
I don't suppose we'll ever find out what the word was supposed to be.1 -

After reading what you said, I messaged them again and asked if they could reply to my previous message. Not holding my breath but you never know.
I am curious to know what the word was but I guess, as you say, we will never know, unless they tell one of the other participants who messaged them. I think it was probably cat but maybe there was a bug in their software that said it was incorrect, when, in fact, it wasn't.1
