Well, they've basically pointed me at a Prolific help page saying they're under no obligation to pay even partial payment, although there's clearly been a technical error as even if they didn't receive my submission they said they should at least have got data showing I had started the study - not sure how true this is, but they essentially seem to be saying, we don't have that so we reckon you didn't do it. Going to just return it at this point because any partial payment I might get (and I probably wouldn't, as they don't seem inclined towards good will) wouldn't be worth the time taken to chase after them for it.olliebean said:Learning and memory in decision making

Has anyone done, and been paid for, this one? I reached the end and it showed me a message saying I had finished the experiment. I waited a fair while to see if it would redirect to a Prolific completion page, but when it did not, I submitted it with NOCODE. Now I have a message from the researcher asking me to return it, as I did not follow the instructions at the end of the study: "Press any key to validate your payment. You'll be redirected to Prolific." and they did not receive my submission. I never saw that message. They are suggesting I return it and participate again, but I don't want to do the work twice and be paid only once.I have replied explaining what happened and suggesting that it seems to have been a technical problem at their end. Is there anything I can do if they refuse payment? Prolific's help says that NOCODEs and submissions not received due to technical errors that are not the fault of the participant are not valid reasons for rejection, but says nothing about whether they are valid reasons to demand that a submission be returned for no payment, just a suggestion that the researcher should consider awarding a partial payment.

Researchers do sometimes suddenly find a fault with their study and withdraw it; maybe that is what happened to you.

Yes, but that only shows when I submitted NOCODE on Prolific. They are saying they didn't get any data from my submission, and essentially casting doubt on whether I even did the study because I didn't submit the correct completion code (because I didn't receive one). Seems pretty obviously a technical problem on their end, coupled with poor on-screen messaging that didn't make it clear I was supposed to have a completion code, but according to Prolific's help pages it seems that if they didn't receive my data due to a technical problem, they are within their rights to request a return without any payment if they want to (it recommends, but does not mandate, offering a partial payment, which they are clearly not willing to do). Had I not returned it, I presume they would have got Prolific to do so for them. Doesn't seem fair, but them's the rules.Slinky said:olliebean said:Slinky said:olliebean said:
