  • The amount of studies I’m having to return because they don’t work is getting ridiculous.

I had a study an hour or so ago (on concentration in the elderly) which asked for name and signature;  I just put my initials in both boxes and it seemed perfectly happy with that.  Paid out instantly on completion.

MollyR was this the study with the arrows.  If it was did you continually receive instructions on what arrow to choose every time even though it was the same one.  After finishing I started to think I was receiving messages because I was doing something wrong when I know I mostly chose the correct arrow.  Between that and it finishing abruptly after the diabetes page, which I didn't need to fill in, I was thinking of returning it but it paid out too quickly.

Yes, it was the one with the arrows;  I think it may have said at the end that there were several versions of it.  But yes, I always had to choose the middle arrow.

Has anyone done, and been paid for, this one? I reached the end and it showed me a message saying I had finished the experiment. I waited a fair while to see if it would redirect to a Prolific completion page, but when it did not, I submitted it with NOCODE. Now I have a message from the researcher asking me to return it, as I did not follow the instructions at the end of the study: "Press any key to validate your payment. You'll be redirected to Prolific." and they did not receive my submission. I never saw that message. They are suggesting I return it and participate again, but I don't want to do the work twice and be paid only once.
I have replied explaining what happened and suggesting that it seems to have been a technical problem at their end. Is there anything I can do if they refuse payment? Prolific's help says that NOCODEs and submissions not received due to technical errors that are not the fault of the participant are not valid reasons for rejection, but says nothing about whether they are valid reasons to demand that a submission be returned for no payment, just a suggestion that the researcher should consider awarding a partial payment.

Did anyone have this one and can explain the sequence? I half got it then it seemed to go wrong.

Don't be put off by the consent form saying they collect personal details (lots listed) for payment purposes. They don't. It's a well paying survey - £8 for 26 minutes even though they say it takes 40-60.

ETA, paid out last night and drew down the money into my account.

I got this one too and was asked to return it after completing part of it because it said it could tell due to my answers that I didn't have the correct headphones!  I wasn't very impressed!

Just completed two short surveys which were identical in questions, about two streets in Sheffield, one of them wasn't even named correctly and had spelling mistakes, also paid less that £6 ph, no name of a person who placed the survey just said student at Sheffield Hallam University, bit weird!  On of the questions was are you happy with the width of the street and the height of the buildings on the street  :D

It's weird how I keep seeing references to Sheffield over the past two days. OH has gone to Sheffield yesterday, back tonight for a course. Yesterday as I got in the car there was a lady from Sheffield on the radio, and I followed a small truck with a Sheffield business signwritten on it. We're miles from there in south east East Anglia!

These things happen when you start noticing.  You may have encountered multiple references to Aberdeen for instance,  in a similar period - but unless you consciously started to notice them, and group them together, they would pass under the radar.
