If I hear anything I'll let you know, Cordie.  Like you, so far, I have heard nothing from the researcher.

    UPDATE x 2:

I have just received  notification that the submission has been approved and 15 pence paid.

There was no other response or reason given then, a few minutes later the award was increased by 89 pence.

I have received the same and the status has been changed from Timed-Out to approved.  I still think it is underpaying for the amount of effort needed to complete the study though.

They must have reposted the study because i did it last night, but it was £3 for about 15 minutes.

  • Thanks for posting, whosthatrubi. Since I was "Timed out," later approved manually, received 15 pence and 89 pence 'adjustment', for 22 minutes, it is better than receiving nothing.

I hoped the Researcher would leave a message but there was no message and no explanation - that was a bit disappointing.

Has Prolific stopped sending email notifications when a response is approved? I've just noticed that I haven't received any since the start of the month. The responses are still getting approved, and the payments credited to my balance, I'm just not getting the emails any more.

Around that time I had an issue with my email, and had to switch to a new email server. As far as I can see it's set up correctly and I'm receiving my emails, aside from these Prolific ones. Is it possible Prolific has stopped sending me emails because one or two bounced during my email problems? If so, how can I re-enable these emails? I haven't had any email notification when a researcher has sent me a message, either.

I am certainly receiving my notifications.  Have you checked with your new e-mail provider that they are not running a spam filter of their own choosing?  They may be binning your notification e-mails without saying a word to you.

In this study, participants will be asked to read two witness statements depicting a crime event and will then be asked to respond to an open-ended question.'

I've had this one rejected - my first ever rejected study!  I'm quite annoyed about it actually as I answered according to their criteria which was specifically to NOT go over the witness statements again but to do it from memory.

You should contest that as attention checks cannot rely on memory recall.

The researchers should be following the guidance at https://researcher-help.prolific.co/hc/en-gb/articles/360009223553-Using-attention-checks-as-a-measure-of-data-quality

    Specifically in this case:
    • They cannot rely on memory recall
    • If your study is 5 minutes or longer, then participants must fail at least two checks to be rejected

I tried re-verifying my email, but that didn't seem to make any difference. But I've now changed my email in Prolific to a different email, and am receiving the notifications again. Not sure what the point is of being able to re-verify an existing email if it isn't going to release a block that has been placed on it.

It was typing recaptcha codes. Some of them the codes weren't showing on my screen, don't know whether this was down to the age of my computer or their software. Did anybody else have blank or nearly blank codes?

Yes, Slinky, I had that one.  Some of the recaptcha codes were very pale, but not all.  I struggled with them.   Then I progressed to part 2 and failed the comprehension check.  I was advised to Return the Study and submit the completion code I was given to receive £3 participation for the part I had completed.

Some of the recaptcha codes, even the ones in bold print, were really difficult to type in, in the very limited time allowed.

I Returned the Study, as advised, and, as there was no place to enter the Completion Code, I sent a message to The Researcher with the Completion Code.  The Researcher thanked me for my time.
